did a short run today and felt a little better, trying to save up everything for tomorrow even though i havent done a faster run in more than a week due to fatigue from sickness... thank you everyone for your kind words. i know the last half of the race will be hell but ive tried and tried to prepare myself for it, so all that there is is going out and doing it.
Dude, if your legs feel dead, switch your brain to your arms. I did that once in an 800 (yeah, I know the last mile of a 5k is very different): almost PRed for 400 on the first lap, and just thought "arms" for the whole second lap. Worked out okay.
Another thing that's actually worked for me in the last mile of a longer race: "The faster I do this, the sooner it's over."
hey guys, just wanted to let you know how the race went. i was actually happy with my race (and finally mentally keyed in) especially because of how my training has been subpar the last 2 weeks because of sickness. i feel i have a lot more left.. turns out im still on the edge so i get to time trial another 5k in 2 weeks. i ran 80-90 mpw over the summer (cut back to 40-50 now being sick) but im feeling better now.. im thinking of going back up to 80 (since i was used to that before) and doing 1-2 workouts this next week.. then 1 workout the week after and take it easy 2 days before the race and hopefully try to run something good. thanks everyone for the advice.. i tried to practice mentally staying into it despite a very fast first mile and i think at my next race ill be able to hold on better.
