Started out reading Runners World. Left it behind 25 years ago.
how many threads are open in 'the loop' right now talking about the oslo meeting right now?

I've had a great time trolling the runner's world forums before. I'm sure people don't need help finding this but here's a link anyway.

I have set up an infiltration ID and call them out from time to time. You have 4-5 hour marathon hobby joggers busting on elites and post college sub elites so it's kind of funny.
Same goes here though, 27 yr olds with 17 min 5K credentials living in mom's basement and ripping Ritz, Webb, Solinsky, Lagat...
Average education level, salary, "hotness" (if you will) of average RW poster >>>>>> LR poster
Ya know, if ya sereous about not wantin to encurrage somethin, a leeding prinsiple is to not reward that somethin. Ya know? Like if me toddler like to wipe his shits on the doggies face, I don't yell "NO DO THAT TO THE DOGBOY!" and then serv the child some ise creme cone.
Wejo or others,
Can someone please explain what the ryan hall troll was all about? Any links to it?

This is why a certain segment of the running population (and no, I don't mean RW readers) will never take the site seriously. Sure, you do some good work and are a nice source for certain things, but when the co-founder of this site backs a trollish rumor thread, you hurt your credibility as "journalists." That and your laughable writing skills.
I think you're not seeing the full point. I personally am the one who removed the thread. So I wouldn't say I backed it, at least from an editorial standpoint. There is a little more nuance here. I think it was on the site for roughly an hour. It definitely was not on the homepage for an hour.
I do think it is funny when a bunch of people believe it and post it on facebook and it gets a story on RunnersWorld. Call that what you want. With Ryan running how he did on Sunday the thread was not out of the realm of possibility. However the poster reported it as fact and that it had been announced without a source.
Also it shows no matter what some people say about the message boards, a lot of people really trust the stuff said on there.
Ideally it would have been caught before it got "Super Hot" on the homepage.
I don't care whether you want to call us "journalists" or not. I believe we're the largest entity in the world that covers professional running on a daily basis. The biggest compliment we get is testimonials from professional journalists. Besides our traffic numbers that's the validation I personally like the most.
Runnersworld and us do very different things. I don't think they sent anyone to Daegu last year for example. They do a lot for the running community as a whole. I don't think you'll see a negative article or shoe review in the magazine.
The LRC Community is a community like any other. Some will like the humor, some won't. Personally, I can appreciate the troll's ability while wishing we had been caught it earlier.
The fact right now at the conclusion of Oslo meet that on our homepage is says "Super Hot on LetsRun: runner's world comes out swingin' at let's run"
make me chuckle.

Serious question, if I click to report a post, does that get sent to anyone?
What's funny is that the post about Hall was a troll post, and this thread was started with a troll post about "runner's world comes out swingin' at let's run" which is completely untrue and written in a misleading way just to stir the pot.

This is why you should make it clear that "Super Hot on LetsRun" is automated. People get mad at you for this regularly... this isn't the first time I've seen someone bitching about you guys because of what pops up there.
Maybe it doesn't bug you on a personal level (as it probably shouldn't) but on a business level it should.
(In the same vein, I'd suggest proofreading articles before putting them up... but that's neither here nor there.)
Do you get emails when your algorithm decides something is "Super Hot"? If not, you should.

The troll who started the thread deserves some props.
The title was believable enough that enough of you clicked on it to make it "Super Hot" on letsrun.
Then it was still believable enough that someone at Runnersworld or one of their friends posted it on facebook believing it.
Excellent.
Almost as good as when in 2002 Track and Field News printed in their magazine: "Ivy League officials are considering withdrawing their schools from NCAA Div. 1 competition and moving to Div. III reports the New York Times"
The problem was the NYTimes never reported that. Some troll posted it on letsrun:
http://www.letsrun.com/2002/tutd1002.phpMaybe we should do an interview with the Ryan Hall troll. If you're the troll and want to do an interview email me. We can keep you anonymous. I don't want to encourage trolling but the best in every field often should be acknowledged.
The fact that you think that "trolling" (posting outright lies, some more harmful than others, is "excellent," says everything about what is wrong with your business model and your business, and your shallowness and blindness.
If you click on any yahoo, newspaper article, NFL, NHL, NBA, MBL website and see the arm chair quarterbacks, trolls, trash talkers, etc. that is the culture of sport today. It means people are talking about you and that is a good thing.
I have no problem with it. This is not a gentlemans game.

why are they not letting me sign up to post a comment?

The other day they got spam attacked so hard that it shut down the forums for over a day.
To try to combat that they suspended all new user accounts.
pretty f'ing hilarious at the time. probably not if you're a legitimate new poster.

Guys, come on. Runner's world is a great resource. How else would I know which fuel belt to buy, or which visor makes me look the absolutes douchiest out of everyone crawling along in the 6 hour pace group in my local neighborhood 5k fun run. Screw runners world. I think it's already been pretty well established that they are trying to destroy the competitive running world, so naturally they hate letsrun.
I have far more in-depth training discussions on Runner's World than I do on Letsrun.
This place has too many idiots to really have serious, decent training discussions (though there have been in the past before all the legit people were run off). Even though many of the posters on RW aren't running super fast, there's still that desire to learn about various training methodologies and discuss them ad nauseum.
Way better than the drivel posted here the majority of the time.

If the shoe fits....
I'm a huge fan of the sport, Ive never been fast enough to be competitive on any level and would probably qualify as a hobby jogger. I've been coming to Letsrun for close to 10 years and feel like I've been provided with enough legit information to follow the sport and to become knowledgeable about training, competition, etc... all while being thoroughly entertained at the same time. Some people need to stop being pansies... Atleast the majority of posters here are intelligent (seriously), go read some of the ESPN comments and you'll have a greater appreciation for LRC.

This, except the part about "most being intelligent"...ha!
In all seriousness , I like this forum for most of the time. Not perfect, but what isn't ? I think if you're confident in who you are then you should be able to handle this forum. Meaning--get thrown w/the sharks and live to tell about it. Just say'n.
