Cameron Levins Is Better Than Galen Rupp At The Same Age

I would tend to agree. A guy like Levins generally turns out to be a flash in the pan more often than not. That kind of mileage day in and day out [g]generally[/g] puts one on the road to ruin and causes underachievement in championship races. I hope Levins can sustain it. I hope he doesn't enter the injury cycle. Kind of reminds me of Dave Bedford, only better.

Rupp has run 26:48, a world class time and American record on far less mileage and has shown remarkable consistency. When he gets the AR in the 5,000, which he will, it will be irrelevant if he holds the 10,000 AR anymore, because he will have held them both at one point or another. Rupp will run 26:30 before he is finished. I doubt Levins will get there, but let the kid prove me wrong.

The premise of this thread around an age correlation is ridiculous.

Galen is the absolute epitome of what is wrong in our sport. Before running gets taken seriously by the general public, our star athletes must act the part. His ridiculous face/nasal gear has made a laughing stock of competitive running in America.

This is why we dislike him. I don't care how fast he runs. He needs to man-up and become an athlete that others can look up to.

I am not looking at the resume. I am asserting that a 23 year old Cameron Levins is slightly better than a 23 year old Galen Rupp.

IF I stated that Hamza Driouch is better than Alan Webb at the same age (assuming Driouch's age is correct), then that is a correct statement, even if Webb turned out to have been better at age 13. You are throwing in a list of achievements (number of NCAA titles) which are not germane to who is the better runner at age 23. What you don't understand is that Levins has improved a lot in the last year or two. Rupp was better as a youngster, that is not in dispute.

You've lost me. How are NCAA titles not germane? Here, I'll put it another way. As recently as 2.5 months ago Levins came in 4th in a race against other collegiates. This at 23 years old.

Here is why. I am not comparing Galen Rupp at 21 to Cameron Levins at 21, or even 22. I am comparing them at age 23. Levins is a late bloomer compared to Rupp, or so it appears, and hence the number of NCAA titles is not germane to how good they are/were, respectively, at age 23. It is still a close call at age 23, but Levins has a slight edge.

Well it's true he doesn't hold the 5000m record today, but you weren't talking about today. You said he will NEVER hold it, as if somehow Rupp not ever running a 5K faster than Lagat will somehow render his lifetime achievements inferior to Salazar's.I didn't say your expression was incorrect, but ambiguous. This thread is pretty silly.

They're both really good, obviously, and it makes sense to be excited about Levins as he's had a big breakout season. I think we're all excited to see where it goes.

But for now, Rupp has clearly accomplished more. And this was even true when he was 23.

I rest my case. Cameron Levins is better now than Galen Rupp was at age 23. Yes, this is now as palpable as my genius.

Rupp needed a 5th year to win any titles at all. In that year though, he won 5 individual titles and anchored a relay title.

No. The 5th year was abolished many years ago. More times than not, Canadians graduate HS a year younger than most Americans.

I am going to hand it to you, Clifford. You may be a bit off at times, but you're one of the most entertaining posters on this site. And Levins would beat the college Galen Rupp. That's for sure.

Cameron Levin's is hitting faster times than galen rupp was at the collegiate level. However, assumptions made based off this single reference makes it easy to consider otherwise. It is safe to say that for now galen rupp has the faster time and is going to be considered faster until the personal bests prove differently. Levins is doing great and I hope the best for him but it is too early to assume.

Personally, I believe Rupp WILL hold the 5k and 10k records simultaneously. 3:50/7:30/12:51 is the trifecta I expect.

Did Levins run a 4:01 mile in high school?
