Will Webb sign with another shoe company?

Coach D, Texas Relays and Mt Sac mean NOTHING! That is a totally 1990s/early 2000s US way of thinking (when all our best guys ran their fastest at Mt Sac in April rather then in Europe in June, July and August).

What will say a lot about the situation is how Webby does at USATFs and the 2nd half of the summer.

Webb has never been a guy who is dominant in indoors. I wouldn't expect him to change that now.

Anyway, you have made your case... Webb is washed up and will not be world class. I have made mine... he already is and wait and see what he does in Europe this year... it will be great by any standard (3:33 or faster, makes our WC team).

wasnt wheating being torn apart on here as recently as 13 months ago when andrews beat him in indoor? i think webb will have plenty of good performances in the future. look at lagat hes gotten better(or at least won a lot more) as hes aged.

How many international races has Webb won? At least 3. How many has Wheating won? ZERO. Just because Webb has been banged up and had a few bad years doesn't mean he is now playing second fiddle to someone that still has yet to run faster than him, at any distance from 800m-10,000m. Wheating looks like a potential superstar but one race does not world class make. Webb, although erratic has demonstrated over multiple years that he is among the worlds best. That is world class. Wheating is young, so let's see what the next 5 years bring for him. My 2 cents is that he burns out of the training needed for sub 3:30 and fades quickly after 2012. Kid wasn't a die hard runner, Webb is and always was since high school. For Wheating, once the novelty wears off he's on to other things.

Top ten ranked year end in the world 1500. Nobody remembers who made the semi other than the athlete and coach , making the final at WC.

Webb as of today is national class and will be until he gets a time that holds up and is competitive with a world class field on the track.

The 5k for Webb should not be forgotten and given the passing of time related to his 1500 racing years , 5k might be where we see him return to greatness if he chooses.

His problem to transition out of his miler mentality is his agent , an ex-miler.

Webb was like a ATM machine to him , lots of races , a coach with no world class or international experience to know when to back off. Meet directors liked the idea of the next great american miler , balanced out the field , lots of money to be paid in appearance fees. ( good for euro TV ) Webb suffered.

Maybe he can find a balance in the future and hopefully become once again the world class athlete we all want him to be.

What about Puma?

I'd love the idea of Webb running for Puma. To me, that is even more of a hardcore, niche brand.

Webb is world-class. I can't believe that's being debated. He is not over the hill. He is in his PRIME. This year and next year are going to be his best ever. You can start this conversation again in 2013.

It looks like this party is over for at least this year. I think Mr.Webb is running out of time. Rankings/WC finalist will be tough now that he is not running nationals.

Maybe he can catch a couple end of the summer meets and set himself up for next year.

the worst thing happens he runs poorly, gets a job using his degree, and he does have a degree, either way alan webb is well off.
