So they are allowed to pay you two-something, but then if you only end up making 4-something overall, the restaurant has to pay you the difference between 4-something and minimum wage. I could be wrong on this, but that's what I remember hearing when I was waiting tables.

I wonder whether the people who didn't tip me because I was "just doing my job' were actually a**holes, or whether they didn't realize I was making peanuts. probably a bit of both.
