Alminova's result shows the undetectibility of PEDs

Hahahahhahahhaa!! Anyone think there may have been a problem with the Shanghai track in '97? Does the iaaf seriously have a policy of recognizing results from a race like that? For f@#$ sake, get a clue.

1. Pseudo-ephedrine is a banned substance for a reason: i took a cough mixture is not an excuse, especially not for a world class athlete. They all know they cant take it.

I know an athlete that ran in Berlin last year and the semi final was delayed due to the rain. Alminova was losing it, getting real stressed out. We assumed it was maybe bicarb, but in hindsight could well have been pseudo-ephedrine. Thats the race she bombed in

However this alone would not make me that suspicious of her.

2. She looked stupidly easy in Paris and probably could have gone another second faster. To run 3:57 is one thing to do it a day after running 4flat (which was her first race of the seaon!!!) is another.

3. For me though the most compelling argument is when you look at when her progression started!

She ticking along nicely a classy runner. Looking like an 800/1500 type, but she had a whole load of other russians ahead of her. We all know what they were doing!

They got busted in 2008. Her race looked very similar to watching soboleva in the world indoors

Low and behold 2009 indoor season Alminova runs 8:28!!!

Her PB before that was 8:56

There is a difference between being nervous and completely losing the plot! And if you re-read my post I never said it was proof in fact I said would let that go on its own.

The other Russians only got caught because they cross-referenced between in and out of comp urine tests. They were never actually caught for doping just substituting samples, so maybe they won't make the same mistake again.

If you can't see that the last glut of suspensions is clear evidence of sytematic doping in the russian system then you're a fool: Seven female athletes all with substituted samples in the same short time period around the Osaka world champs. Must be a coincidence!

I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned this--I think a second faster is a dramatic understatement. She looked completely, totally untaxed by destroying a solid field.

Heh and why would Barringer not take drugs. She lets her dogs run off leash right in front of signs to keep them on leash. And she doesn't give a shit because she is above the law, just like a few others who can't be mentioned on here or the posts get removed.

Within 8 seconds of the world record? Yes, the women's 1,500m world record, that world record which is well known by all athletics cognoscenti to be trust-worthy and achieved in believable circumstances by a woman that everyone thinks was clean.

If you discount the chinese and the eastern bloc times then Boulmerka(sp) is the quickest at 3:55. then you have Ayhan (busted) and Fomenko(busted) then Jamal 3:56. Probably the 2nd fastest clean alltime

(Oh, and n=7 for a 2.1% performance increase tells you almost NOTHING).

2.1% improvement for an elite racer is not significant? boy you in the lab too long. name one event that a 2.1% improvement from the WR now would put someone head and shoulders above the rest? 2.1% is huge.

Not sure why more folks aren't talking about this post and study. Clearly the substance is considered banned for a reason. No more of this "Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant and won't help you" nonsense.

Also, for those of you who keep balking that Alminova can't possibly get away with doping while being one of the best athletes in the world and subjected to "a battery of tests"...are you kidding?! Marion Jones, who won multiple Olympic medals would have gotten away freely if her coach hadn't been pissed off and sent a sample of "the clear" to drug testers!

When is Alminova racing next? I'd love to hear Cram's take on her again...funny stuff.

Alminova's 3:57.65 is 15.5% slower than the men's record of 3:26.0 by El G.

Yunxia Qu's 3:50.46 is 11.9% slower than the men's record of 3:26.0 by El G.

Radcliffe's 2:15:25 is only 9.2% slower than Geb's men's record of 2:03:59

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

She's only getting ripped like this because she's Russian.

She probably is doping, everyone knows that, but anyone who accuses Alminova without looking at CWT even more sceptically is biased by the fact that they think that white Americans wouldn't possibly dope.

You think an athlete in sophisticated Russia who probably knows all about EPO, blood doping etc. and has had numerous fellow athletes get away with those types of things would try to cheat with a very detectable over-the-counter drug with dubious performance-improving quality like Sudafed? Uh, Ok. If she's cheating, she's doing the real stuff and not Sudafed.
