BAA's system is not based on equal performance but more on making sure that they have people from all age groups and genders, therefore women's standards are lower. Which is okay, until we hit the 50% then they might have to adjust. Anyway, I think there system was fine until two years ago when it sold out early. Now they need to fix it while still making sure it sells out at some point.
First step is chopping of the 59 sec they allowed everyone to actually be OVER the time limit but I doubt that would be enough.
I am sure BAA has good statistics data and knows where the threshold is between lower BQ times and not selling out anymore. They just need to hit it.
My guess is take off 3:59m (of each age group) and you're there. For now, that is. In a few years, you gotta adjust again. 5 or 5:59min is probably gonna work for the next 5-10 years. 3:05 sharp (for young men).
