As another poster said, Penetar is going to Temple.

That makes no sense to me, from an athletic standpoint. This has to be an academic decision....
If you had an opportunity to go to a d1 school wouldn't you leave too.
Who cares about your baby regionals?!!

Well, Penetar is not going to be an All-american at D1 first of all. So if the goal is to purely run as fast as possible, the question for him is which program (that will take him) is going to allow him to do that. The program at cabrini might of taken him as far as he coudl athletically. It can't be easy to train all the time when there's no one on the team in the same realm as Penetar. However, there are plenty of other D1,D2,and D3 schools with better coaching and programs where he'd be challenged and hopefully continue to improve. Temple is D1, but it's hardly a competitive school. There are community colleges with better xc and distance coaching than Temple. Not to mention its campus in the part of philly least conducive to training.
So, if the school in question was Temple, no I wouldn't run at a D1 school...

On the mens side, Dickinson has everyone back including a track AA who didn\'t run xc regionals last year. They should be loaded. Downside of Dickinson is that they fade with track. Some say its the coach running them into the ground.
The Haverford army should take Centennials this year. They\'re looking for revenge. Dickinson beat them 3 times last year, something never done before. Downside is Haverford tends to be weak mentally and Donnelly only has so many regional coach of the year awards that he can throw into rivers and lakes.
Allegheny and CMU have the best coaches in the region who always have their teams running tough at regionals. Western PA may rule the mideast. Downside will be the long commute to regionals.
Outside chance for Etown. Straub usually has his boys running good at regionals.
For the women, it should be the Hopkins Show again. They have depth, but won\'t be good enough on the national scene.
After that the second, and last slot will be between Etown and Messiah. Etown may have the best women\'s coach in the region. But, the mideast really screwed up last year\'s nationals, and there\'s no signs of it getting stronger. Like Moravian from the 90s, the Dickinson glory years are over. The mideast is the worst region in the country, now behind the South.
dickhophavgators,
It will play out like this:
Men:
Dickinson
Haverford (however H\'Ford wins conference meet)
CMU
Etown
Allegheny
Women:
John Hopkins
Dickinson (however D\'son wins conference meet)
Messiah
* too watered down after third to figure out until teams start competing.
Neither the CMU or Allegheny men's or Etown women's coaches are the best at coaching their gender in the region. The best men's coach works at Haverford and the best women's coach works at Dickinson.
FOr men I think Haverford will pull it off over Dickenson, for the most part they always run best when it counts..
Top 5:
Haverford
Dickinson
Allegheny
Carnegie Mellon
Elizabethtown

that's hilarious. (I hope you're not serious.)
This region is really up in the air. You got 5 solid teams: Dickinson, Allegheny, Etown, CMU, and Haverford. If you raced those 5 teams 100 this year, I think the order could be completely different everytime.
And yes, Di-Lan is the all of the five greatest rappers of all times. But this thread about the D3 Mideast region....
Ok E-town is not that good. I know they return a bunch of dudes but they finished over 100 points behind 4th place Haverford last year, which in a regional meet is a pretty huge margin Unless one of the other teams has an awful season, they likely won't be in the top 4. I suppose they could make nationals, though I really don't know enough about the qualification process to say.
CMU loses a strong #1 and #3, and don't seem to have the same depth as some of the other teams, so it looks like thye'll need some unknowns to step it up if they want to beat Haverford, Dickinson or Allegheny.
Looking at returners from regionals, Haverford looks a little weak, but they had some good track performances (a lot of sub-15 5k runners), always have lots of depth, and Tom Donnelly is a fantastic coach who knows how to get his runners to perform when it counts.
Dickinson's runners seem a little inconsistent, but they do return their entire top 7, and have an all-american in the steeple who didn't even run at regionals or nationals last year, so they can definitely challenge for the top team in the region.
Allegheny looks the strongest on paper - they return six of their top seven, including the only xc all-american in Dipre, plus a 14:27(!) guy who somehow wasn't on their top 7 in cross. They do, however, seem to have a penchant for getting second at the regional meet.
Individually it looks pretty up in the air, though I'd put down Dipre and Marker of Allegheny, Leak of Dickinson and Donatelli of CMU as likely contenders. Still, there are enough talented runners and no absolute standouts in the region that there could definitely be some surprises individually.
Everyone is forgetting about Messiah College....
messiah lost their frontman and although they had a solid team behind him i dont think theyll be as far up as last year
I think E-town will be better than you think they will. They graduated a couple of solid runners but if you look at their track season they had a few underclassmen step up big time.
Messiah will be very strong as well but as someone mentioned they lose their top guy and they typically have a tendency to really run well in mid to late September and fall off a little by the end of the season.

We're talking about XC not lacrosse.

I think in the Centennials the Dickinson-Haverford mens match up will be a good one. Dickinson is at its peak, and will continue to get better. Haverford is always good. Both are rumored to have a few decent recruits, so a tight rivalry will continue into the future. Last year, Dickinson crushed Haverford in XC, then Haverford crushed Dickinson's distance team on the track. What a battle this will be this fall!
At regionals, I think you could have the right top 5, but not in that order. CMU and Allegheny always run their best at that meet. It will be tight between the top 4 -- Haverford, Dickinson, CMU, and Allegheny. I'd put Etown between 5-8, not 4th.
Another men's team that could be in the mix for that 5th spot would be Gettysburg. Don't be surprised if you see the Bullets firing away at regionals. They have a good coaching staff and the team likes them. So they've been responding to changes made there in recent years.
But, I'm not sure the region has 5 national level teams this year too. So I'll predict 4 teams to nationals.
For the women, it will easily be Hopkins in Centennials and Regionals. They've gotten some recruits in recent years, and are rumored to have a few more. That in combination with an aggressive coach that their athletes love will carry them far.
Messiah should be a decent team too, and is rumored to have a few decent runners coming in. The Etown-Messiah MAC matchup will be a good one as it has been in recent years. One of those two teams will be the second team in regionals. Both teams have coaches that are well respected by their athletes, and while Messiah is an early season team that fades with the season, they'll still be tough in November. Mark my words.
Dickinson is rumored to have gotten no top runners, and have been losing their front pack slowly in recent seasons. Plus, Dickinson has been on the slide since they lost an assistant a few years back who has ended up at Etown. Go Hard Big Dick is a bit limp these days. Don't be surprised if they finish 3rd in Centennials behind both Hop and Hav. Also, wouldn't be surprised if the Gettysburg women run close enough to them to make it a close 3rd. The Little Three race should be really close between those two teams this year with Gettysburg having the home advantage.
Our region will likely will have only 2 women teams at nationals this year unless the entire country is down or if the regional rep can do a sales job. The region is extremely weak this year of national level teams.
Gettysburg women lost two of their top 7, as well as having 3 of their top 5 not run track.
If any Gettysburg team will do well, it will be the mens team, who lost only their 5th, and only lost to Etown by 2.
Pleasantly surprised to see this discussion has stayed civil! I agree about the men more or less, but I think Allegheny will roll easily the men's side. Etown would appear to be a distant 5th except so many of their top guys were freshmen last season. If they develop at all they will be in the mix. I am unfamiliar with CMU, but if they are as good as usual, this could be the year the Mid-East men get 5 teams. Remember they advanced 4 last year, and they all finished in the top half of the field. Unlike years past, this region has a number of very good teams.
On the women's side, it is Hopkins and somebody, as mentioned above. Probably only 2 teams this year, but that depends on how they run late season, not on last years national results. I believe Haverford women will be in the hunt.
