True, sounds like Ritz is planning races after worlds so maybe Rupp will be on that plan. That would mean he puts in a couple months of real work, races Berlin and does a couple more. Might happen. Supposedly he barely ran between NCAAs and USAs.

Rupp is a much better tactician than Tegencamp.

I watched the video of the race at flotrack. Tegencamp got up to the leaders with a bit more than 5 laps to go and then kept cutting himself off to stay behind them. He was lucky to get second, only because one of the first two stopped before he got to the finish.

The other four were battling the last 5 laps, while Tegencamp kept staying behind them. That is fine for conserving energy but at some point you need to make a move to get in front by the finish. The last 180 meters is way too late to be 10 or 15 meters behind, and hoping you are faster than everyone else.

But if you really are faster than everyone else then why not make the pace faster with 5 laps to go. It is, after all, a 5000 meter race. And if you can't hold the pace for 5 laps, then surely you have to be in the front the last lap.

ummm.....Yes he did. last five splits was 59.9,61.2x,60.xx,60.xx,53.xx = a 4:56.If that's not running away from the field for the last 2k then I don't know what is.

But back to teg, it was a great race for him but I still think he needs to be more aggresive out there. Don't let guys cut you off and don't be afraid to run from the front at the start.

Seriously, are you really this stupid? Well are you? His 3:39 was not at the end of a triple. All he ran was a slow ass 5000 final the day before. The 1500 heat does not count for a triple. The Olimpic 100 meters has 4 rounds. Does that count as a quadruple?

And Ulrey had a 3:37 going into Europe, much different from a 3:39. He was also NCAA runner-up from a year before and has qualified for worlds. Rupp has never won a 1500 meter final in his life and finished 3rd in his own conference! But all of a sudden if Rupp does not run a 5000 in 14:10 the day before he's supposed to be freaking Steve Scott.

Kipchoge was with Bekele with 300 meters to go.

The point is that Bekele kept the pace going the whole race. He led quite a bit of it before the last 2k. Then he pushed it harder the last 2k, and still did not pull away from Kipchoge till the last 300 meters. So no one is saying for Tegencamp to "run away from the field" with 5 laps to go.

Regarding the 13:08, I like others believe he should have run a very hard 400 meters versus running a hard 100 meters.

What was his last 400 in? 58ish? He can do better than that I hope. He should have closed in under 55.

If someone runs a 3:59.97 mile do you post a headline that says 4:00 for so and so?

Go back and read Coach D.Also note that Teg put himself into positions that are ones he might have to deal with in Berlin, so it was good racing exercise. Maybe his objectives in this race were not exactly what you think his were; drawing conclusions on that basis, without allowing for other possibilities does not make you appear as astute as you might be. Do we know that Bekele is doubling or just doint one (10,000?!).As for Rupp, I am not sure that we will be able to see what he is capable of yet on the world stage because of his super-extended season, but I am looking forward to his race. Rupp has the possibility to be on Teg's level (or maybe even more) but that will have to play out over time. I have really been impressed with Rupp this year, more than I expected, and each step seems easier than I would expect. Teg was never so dominant at the collegiate level, although part of the problem was a succession of related injury problems, stemming in part from growing so much in college (between junior year HS and junior year college he grew quite a lot -- 6++inches? -- and only after learning to back to a lower mileage level did that start to get it right at the end and then continue the progress post-college. [I used the same physio that was getting him straighten out at the end of college.]

How was Rupp 3rd at conference when he was 2nd? In a race that had 3:36, 3:37, 3:38 & 3:38 guys with 3:40 guys to boot. Only the 3:36 guy beat Rupp and he didn't have a 10K the night before. So 3:37, 3:38, 3:38 & 3:40 guys couldn't beat Rupp in a kickers race despite that he had a 10K the night before and you are doubting Rupps closing speed.

Did you seriously compare someone going 1500-5000-1500 in 2 days to a sprinter who runs 100s over several days? Nice.

I'm sick of all you fanboys goining on and on about galen rupp saying that he ran such and such the day before so most likely if he didn't run such and such, he would've ran much faster. Give it a break, the point is the fact that he hasn't ran a 3: 34 so don't go off spouting out like its going to be a walk in the park. Not only do you show disrespect to teg, ulrey and other u.s distance runners you also show complete ignorance about the sport. And everytime someone tells you guys to settle down a little bit you lable them as a hater or a doubter. I'm not a hater or a doubter and want rupp to succeed on the world scene just as much as solinsky, teg, hall, etc but I'm also careful not to pit one against the others. ~cheers~

Teg can be much higher than top 10; his goal at Heusden was to get the A qualifier and have a good race. I really don't think that he was disappointed. He will get better on tactics and does really need to "get clear" in the late stages of the race, but a very good point on one of the threads was that the Africans are purposely trying to make it difficult for one of the few non-Africans that will get in their and "mix it up" with them!!! Go Teg; hopefully some of these critical posters will realize how difficult your task is!!!!!!
