True, that isn't necessary.
How long have you been watching track? To call this an "off year" either means you are trying to yank everyone's chain or you have no idea about track.
If it is the former, you can stop, there are enough people on the board who do this on purpose or by accident because they are stupid. If it is the latter, we can't help you, this has been a great "year" ... both indoors and outdoors have had a lot of excellent marks, records and depth at mile, 3000, 5000 and 10,000.

Because he'll be getting paid?
Getting paid to run a 13:30. I doubt it.
Ritz has not run any slower than 13:25 since college 13:20 at the very least
Ritz is the man. http://www.runopolis.blogspot.com

You think other than his Nike salary he's running for free, or the promise of a winner's prize $$? Dream on.

13:25 = decent time for a guy in college
My coach was an all-american about 10 years ago and has a 13:50ish PR.

They might have paid his airfar, hotel room and gave him $50 bucks for food. Other than that they are probably only giving pay-outs to top three or if they run under a certain time (13:15).

Im a mid 14s college guy and I get that for my meets. Get with the program.
but you don't have the chance of winning mula, now do you?
Ritz will run 13:15-13:20. He is a world class runner in a world class race. He isn't in it to run 13:27. And I hope he is in it to run 13:10.
I don't think he has the speed yet, after the London marathon, to run much better than 13:20 right now. Based on his comments this spring, he is planning to run 5K and 10K this summer. If he does well, he has the opportunity to become top-5 American all-time in both events (13:04.91 and 27:29.15 would do it)

Well, I take that back. I'm excited for every track meet. I'm just not excited that Ritz is in it. Why would you be.
Again, do you think Ritz is a headliner for this meet or are there bigger names that might give you (and others) a reason to be excited about this meet?
What. I said I was excited. There are lots of good names. Saif Shaheen is running and Insane Bolt.
I would love for him to run just a few track and road races this summer, a full XC season the fall/winter, a fast 10k and 1/2 marathon in the spring/summer 2010, then run his next marathon in fall 2010, maybe Berlin. I think it would get him some PR's because he's got more in him on the track. It'll keep him hungry for another marathon when he's running fast again, and he'll be ready to pop a good one at Berlin.
I honestly thinks he loves track and XC racing more than the marathon.
I think 13:30 would be a very good result just 7 weeks or so after a marathon.
Sounds like a good plan to me... maybe he should hire you as his new coach!

Eliud, you visit letsrun!?!? That's crazy man. How's training going? Any predictions for yourself at Prefontaine this weekend? Good luck! Also, how are you qualified in anyway to talk about the American collegiate system? 13:25 is not an average collegiate time, 14:00 is. Just thought you should know buddy. Stick to talking about international races, you know those a lot better.
