Okay old man I'll bite.

1. Get back in sub 17 shape for the 5k.

2. I thought I was going to die the other day running 5 miles with my girlfriend.

3. 18:01 5k last summer, I could probably break 19:00 if chased.

4. Sub 17 by XC championship season.

5. pr 15:59.41 indoor track 2008 (senior year)

Times aren't that important to me. I just want to feel "in shape" again.

My times will be the most atrocious so far, but I have goals too, so here goes:

I didn't start running races til this past November and nearly all of those have been 5K XC, so my times are horribly high (at least they're all under 30 minutes). Here my goal is just to run on a fairly flat course so I can have a time to post. This summer I'm planning on running a mile race, and there the goal is to run under 8 minutes - I think it's doable for me. I also want to consistently run higher mileages per week. My highest mpw was 45 last week. I also have weight loss goals that hopefully will also help my running goals. Thanks for the thread - it's like making a contract with yourself when you write things down!

1a) My goal is to get my girlfriend naked.

I could update here, although there will not be much excitement for a while.

I am just starting my summer job; doubles plus working 8 hours is definitely manageable, but I will have to see if I can handle triples.

1. Sub 28 8k and a 4.15 1500 meter

2. I'm pretty out of shape but I was able to outrun some dogs the other day. I think I can manage my goal if I stay focused and ignore my legs and fatigue during the race (like when I was chased by the dogs).

3. most recent race was a 4.22.98 1500

4. last 1500 was my pr and 8k pr is 28.36

5. I just finished my career running as part of a team; I feel that I have some unfinished business two take care of with these two goals.

1. My current goal is to break 3:40 in a 1500.

2. Chinese buffet isn't slowing me down. Neither is McDonalds.

3. I ran 3:42 yesterday in an obscure meet in NY

4. I plan on running my goal time before the end of summer

5. My PB is 3:30 but that seems so long ago.

1: What are your current GOALS/Goal race and time?

To return to ultra-running after 3 years trying to improve times over shorter distances but just not feeling satisfied - even though I did reach national champs (where I ran a shocker as I was ill.)

2: What is a recent indicator of current level of fitness?

VO2 test in lab where I hit 69ml.kg.min. (I'm a sports scientist).

3: What do you believe you can run now or do you have a recent race time or training session to draw from?

hmmmm....right now, not much. I've not been running more than 90min as I've been focusing my training on 5,000m. So, in an ultra, I'd die shortly after starting!

4: What date have you set to reach your goal(goals are only dreams if there is no plan to get there)?

2010: July. Return to the place of my first ultra, The 50-mile Challenge, and get a top 10 finish.

2010: August. Run the British Long Distance Trail Champs along the Ridgeway again and improve on 26th place finish.

2011: May. Run the Grand Union Canal Race. a 145 mile non-stop race from Birmingham to London

2011: later...once recovered... set out to run a 100mile trail race in the US.

2012: run the Bob Graham Round, a 24hr/72 mile fell (mountain) running challenge in the Lake District, North England.

5: If you care to include it, what is your Personal Best and, if that was from years ago, what caused you to get at it again?

90mile trail race including 9,000ft of climbing, 23:50. Would like to run same race and get under 20 hours.

Well, I thought I would bump this thread, mainly to see about others' progress.

Personally, my ambitious goal of sub-4 remains in my sights, but I have not really tested myself yet. June consisted of bumping my mileage, which went pretty well. Most weeks consisted of 70-80 miles easy running; most days were doubles. I should be hitting 100 this month, and hopefully hold the 100-120 range for a while.

Also, I thought I would include a couple quotes that have inspired me:

Done with running. Reached all my goals really (have it pay for school and compete at a national championship). No regrets really.

Goal now is to put on 25 pounds, and be able to rep 225 on the bench ten times. Also be able to do 60 pushups in a minute.

I love having goals completely unrelated to running that have no real purpose. Is it weird that I don't miss competing in the sport at all?

Thanks for bumping the thread. I am up to about 30 miles per week right now. I know its not alot for some but It is a haul for me. I have been adding miles by running about 40 percent of my miles on a Treadmill to keep the knee pounding down.

I haven't been getting in the speed work I would like to get in, but I do get to the track about every other week and get warmed up well, do a bunch of drills and then strides etc. I recently ran 13 flat for 100m and did 2x300 in 51, 53 with about 5 minutes rest. I wasn't going all out but wanted to get good turn over and run strong through the end with the sense that I had more to give and could keep going. the second one was hard but the first one felt great.

To me, these are all good indications. I don't expect to get fully at it until September or so. Good Luck all!

1: Break 10 in the 2 mile

2: Haven't done any races yet, but I'm doing some local races in July that should give me a good idea if I'm in shape.

3: I could probably will myself around 10:30 to 10:45 at the moment

4: I'm planning on running the 2 mile at a meet in August, forget the exact date.

5: My best was 10:32 back in 2003 when I was a junior in High School, after that I switched my focus to the 800 and haven't run further than 1500 meters on the track since.

I've only been running 3-4 days a week since I graduated from College in 2008, I had a good Senior year running and coaching high school track in the spring has motivated me to try and get back in that shape and get some of my distance PRs down.

13:58 5k and 29:05 10K 9 years ago.

My goals are almost the opposite of dontmissa ( I used to lift weights, my goal was 315 I actually reached 330)

Now I want to run a 5k in less than 20 minutes

Last month I ran a couple 800's in around 2:30 somewhat easily

Right now im just running about 26 miles a week mostly easy, maybe one effort a week at a moderate pace.

1:

- To go un-injured for an entire year

- 48.X in the 400, 22.0X in the 200, 10.8 in the 100

2:

Been lifting alot so far this summer, more than pretty much ever before. I've haven't been able to run as much as I wanted due to work, but I did a 5x200, 3x200 workout the other day with the first set in 32-34 and the second set in 28-30 each with 1 1/2 rest in between.

Right now I bet I could go 52.0, 23.5, 11.7

I want to be there by April and May of next year.

PRs- 49.9, 22.4, 10.9

.....ooooooh, but you will.......

1. To make my college's national championship squad for XC and be in our teams top 5 at the national meet (10k XC; probably 32 flat).

2. Ran this section of a 12.5 mile run that is slightly over 10 miles in 58:35 and 20x 200m strides in 38 seconds (10k GP) with 15 seconds rest.

3. Could probably run low 33s for 10k right now but don't have any real indication.

4. NCAA D2 Nats on November 21.

5. 33:25 on a hilly XC course last season.

Goals - All American in the mile and 1500 and (maybe??) XC

Right now I am in base phase for XC so I could maybe chug out at mid 26 8k right now

For track I want to run a 4:05 and 3:47

Last year my personal bests were 4:14 and 3:56. These are off of my first big base season from cross... the year before was 4:24 and 4:05
