When Wariner left Hart, I thought it was a mistake and questioned his loyalty to the man who had helped him become an Olympic champion. Immaturely, I quietly hoped he would lose this time around. Yet hearing both Wariner and Merritt getting interviewed during the Olympics, I thought Wariner handled himself much better even after losing, while Merritt came across as an ass, acting like he expected to win by such a large margin.

So, like, right now? Oh wait, the Olympics are over. NBC no longer cares about track. The biggest audience Warriner (and any other track runner) will ever have is on TV right after his race at the Olympics. That's what his sponsors pay him the big bucks for: to (ideally) win the race, and then make a good impression in the post-race interview so that the public will recognize him in his ad campaigns.
As for the suggestion that the reporter shouldn't ask about what has to be one of the biggest stories in track this year -- Warriner dumping his coach and then losing for the first time in years -- that's precisely the kind of journalism you might expect in China. But not from an American network, I'd hope.

one of the biggest stories in track this year??? 99.9999% of the people watching nbc's taped showing of the race had never heard of warner, much less his coach. i also think that bolt is just a little bit bigger story.
