Did 6+ yesterday and 5.5 today to recover. As of right now, I am very drunk......chigga chigga yeah.... !
Conditions were fairly fast--would have been rocket fast but we had about 20 to 25k of narrow path, which had been pulverized to 2-6" of sugar snow from 100 sled dog teams the Iditarod the day before and 400 skiers in the 40k who hit that section of trail before the 50k skiers did. So we also had human slalom.
This was a fast year: the winnner went 2:07, one of the fastest times ever for the 50, but he's also a 2 time 10k national champ and 2006 Olympian.
I used 100% flouro wax for the first time, and pretty much put in all the layers that the fancy wax techies recommended.
Here in Atlanta it is Peachtree qualifying season. For the 6 weekends before the application is released in mid-March there is a 10k somewhere in Atlanta trying to draw those who want a seeded time for entry. The biggest and fastest of those for the last few years has been the Chattahoochee Road Runners 10k on the first weekend in March. Last Saturday the Masters had some decent early season showings at this race which has Masters and Grandmasters prize $. Winner was John Bartlett in 32:25, followed by Kristian Blaich in 32:43 and myself in 32:47. 4th was a 45 year old from Chattanooga, TN, Tim Ensign, in 33:17. 1st Grandmaster was Ken Youngers in 34:28. He was Running Times 3rd ranked runner in the 50-54 AG last year. I don't normally look at the boards on Let's Run much, but it was nice to see a Masters post. Congrats to all those who posted earlier and best of luck with your spring racing!
