Blood doping with your own blood is undetectable, homologous isn't....Tyler Hamilton got caught.
So was it a mistake, maybe took the wrong bag? It seems to me that he didn't store up enough blood before the Tour, and he might have used it a bit too early because of the crashes. So just prior the tempo he had nothing left in the fridge and simply had to gamble and take somebody elses, an act in desperation.

Someone mentioned that cycling has always been dirty with the use of Brandy and other pain killers and this wasn't true in running. First of all the pain killers were acceptable in the early days of the Tour and the professional runners from the early 1900s employed the same methods.
I don't know if T&F is more or less dirty than cycling but, the reason so many more cyclist are caught than runners has to do with the nature of the event. You’re talking about an event that lasts 21 almost consecutive days and the greatest impact on success is how fast an athlete can recover for the next day’s stage. So, doping during the Tour becomes necessary just to be completive. Where T&F is mostly a one day event (aside from heat in the shorter events) doping the day of or the days leading up to an event don't have the same impact. If track athletes are doping, then they're probably doing it out of season.
Thank God Lance Armstrong saw the writing on the wall and knew when to take a bow! I think that the same can be said for El G - gotta know when to hold'em and know when to fold'em.

The guy everyone in cycling celebrates as the greatest ever--The Cannibal, Eddy Merkx--was caught doping at least once. The cyclists themselves have seemed over the years to accept doping of some sort as a matter of course and not to consider it a character issue. The fact is that now it is considered a character issue and the culture of the world outside cycling is meeting up against the culture of the cycling world.
Ever wonder why Phil, Paul, Roll, and Andreu NEVER talk about doping? They are a part of that culture, and I think it's just accepted. I love to listen to them and love to watch the sport, but somebody's going to have to decide whether the culture of the sport is up for honesty and the ethics that purport to rule outside the peloton as the sport gets more popular, or whether it needs to remain an insular culture with its own code. It appears to me as if pro wrestling is in a similar boat.
The poster who said that track seems to have a different code among the lower ranks may have a point. The solitary nature of the sport may seem to encourage a different sort of ethic. For the 30 years I've been in the sport, it's always been that way, at least on the surface, with guys like Shorter, Rodgers, Waitz, etc. And there's always been a lot of suspicion of those who "might" have doped or done something illegal or unethical.
Regarding Contador, unless VeloNews doesn't check, recheck, and then double check their facts, Contador was cleared of any involvement in Puerto when Dr Fuentes himself stated he never worked with Contador:
"Though he was one of nine riders forced out ahead of the start of the Tour, none other than Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes himself, who said he never worked with Contador, cleared him. A Spanish court later formally cleared him of any link to the doping investigation."

As far as Andreu, he is a lot closer to talking about doping by other riders than you may think. Again, according to VeloNews:

Listen, 90% of professional athletes are doping. The only time the sports media cares or the public cares is when people get caught. For the most part everyone has their head in the sand. Cheating is a part of professional sports. Has been since the first check was signed and cashed. Cycling gets a bad rap because they are trying to catch people. If the NBA, NFL, or MLB did random testing and tested as often as cycling or even track what crap do you think would pop up. Check out the sizes of NBA rookies now compared to 20-30 years ago. Compare Wilt to Lebron James. You think you can throw 90mph all year without being on something? You think you can hammer 70 home runs a year without being on something? The three major sports have too much power and so they don't bother to test and no one forces them to test so we pretend they are clean because they haven't gotten caught.
I for one could care less. Let Vino play. I'd much rather see someone hammer 80 home runs, run a 3:40 mile, throw 105mph. We watch sports to see something special, something we can not do. To get to the level of a professional athlete you still need talent, you still need to work hard, performance enhancing drugs simply takes you to that otherworldly level. Instead of just finishing the Tour, you're winning it. Instead of just swatting 40 dingers you're swatting 60. Instead of just pulling up for a jumper your dunking over some skinny rail with your 48in vertical. Instead of just tackling someone by the legs you are smashing them. If you believe the are all dirty then it ceases to matter anymore. The testing will always be behind the cheaters because there is more money to be made in cheating than in preventing the cheat. Let's then say a representative from your team or sponsor comes up to you and says "If you take this you'll earn $1 million dollars a year". "You won't get caught, everyone is on it (he then shows you stone cold proof), we have medical personnel who can keep it under wraps to make sure you don't get caught"
What would you do? Would you take it? Go from running 2:15 to 2:09 in the marathon...go from finishing in the middle of the peleton to the lead...go from just squeaking by as a professional athlete to making hundreds of thousands if not millions.
If you are shown proof that most of your colleagues are on something what would you do?

Yeah...Steve Nash, Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince are Steroid Monsters.Lebron was already extremly strong at a time where his parents probably couln't afford buying that stuff.The NBA isnt't completely clean but i'm sure that there are more NBA players on Cannabis than on Roids.
Cycling is the dirtiest sport after Body Building(if you can call that a Sport) cause there is no other sport that is almost 100% based on physical strength where you can earn so much money.

That is the most lame brained rationalization I've ever heard. So what if all sports are fixed/ rigged, at least you're entertained, right? Sad as it is, I suspect that 90+% of sport is completely fake. Not that we don't see great performances, just that that's all we're really seeing... performances.
I haven't watched a pro sporting event in many years. Not since watching Shaq literally beat the hell out of opposing players right in front of the refs face, while rarely drawing the foul, usually being sent to the line himself.
College is no better.
Sports are entertainment, what ever gets the big draw goes.
Legitimate competition is just too unpredictable.
