GO PRO Galen. The NCAA is about trying to peak and WIN at NCAA events!! The guy has an NCAA scholarship- its not the damn minor league of professional track- its about trying to bring glory to yourself and school who is footing the bill. If you don't like that, GO PRO.

i acutally think McDougal ran a smart race. He was predicting that Rupp would be the guy to beat so he shadowed Rupp the entire race thinking that he might be able to outkick Rupp if it came to that. If Rupp made a move, McDougal was on his ass.
But both of them paid the price for taking some turns on the front and trying to break the field up ealier in the race.
The women seemed to have learned a lesson from this and didn't play around as long as the guys.

They are all Stregnth runners. They are not sit and kick runners. Yet each of them allowed the race to go relatively slow. Each one can look in the mirror and know that they coulda, should woulda but didn't. Each one handed the race to a kicker.

Rohatinsky was in the mix for a while but when things heated up, he couldn't go. when you see guys with top quallifying times fall back you gotta suspect they were coming off an injury and just wanted to race.
Again, I must have missed the part where NCAA athletes sign a contract saying they will "try to peak and win an NCAA event" and "bring glory to yourslef and school who is footing the bill." (By the way, Galen has brought no shortage of attention to Oregon. I'd say they have gotten their money's worth.) But he can peak whenever the hell he and his coach want. For Galen, this is the minor leagues. And if you don't like that, well, no amount of complaining is going to change it.

Just to make sure you understand my post, I was saying what you are saying; namely, not winning an NCAA title is not in any way going to influence whether Rupp turns pro or not.

dave wottle was kind of nerdy and he won olympic gold. and alan webb isn't exactly the most suave of characters, to bring it to the modern day.
so i don't think galen has anything to worry about.

He is going to go pro sooner rather than later. And even in the minor leagues you're not going to win every time, especially in a tactical race. But I realize now that I'm arguing with a complete twit with he reasoning capabilities of a 15-year-old, pimple-faced teenager. Oh, right, because you are a 15-year-old pimple-faced teenager.

Speaking of minor leagues, I recall the US men's basketball team in the 2004 Olympics and their pathetic showing. I remember LeBron being interviewed and going on about how they did their best...blah blah blah.
He experimented and it didn't work out the way it was planned. This is information he now knows for the US championships. Championship races are always different. El G can tell you that. At some point, Rupp had to figure out how he can run in a championship 10k given his current ability level. I think it is good for him to know whether he can win a race off a slower pace that comes down to the last couple of laps as well as a fast pace. Yesterday seems to indicate that he can't. So, should the pace at the US champs slow down, I would expect him to adjust his tactics and take control earlier.

I agree that Rupp has great talent but don't demean the NCAA's as minor league just because he lost.
He got beaten on the day because he didn't run to his best ability and it will just be a leason learnt for when he does go pro
I like Rupp but i thought this was kind of funny, the notes for the splits said "7th lap 71, Rupp in 8th with Breathe Right and Hamstring wrap." Was that info necessary?
