Thanks for posting the videos Mike. Don't run much anymore myself, but still a runner nerd at heart that loves good races. I watched all of them. The Indoor IC4A 1500 and Penn DMR (Miles' 800 was huge) were awesome!

Mike, I was at that race. One of the most exciting high school races I've ever witnessed. Thanks for the memories.

Mike. Some of your interval workouts (which seem ordinary for a HS runner) said the terrain is "road" others said that is was at "Halls indoor building." Could you go into more detail here?

Yes - Our HS building was set up sort of like a "box." You could run 5 halls and to make a full loop. Anyone from Carmel will tell you that it is a common workout. Sometimes you have to take what you can get.

So what you were calling "Halls" was actually running a measured loop through the school hallways?

What about Jan 3, Jan 11, Jan 24? You call those "road". Exactly what surface did you run on?

Mrr82 wasnt bashing Mike. He made a correct statement, saying letsrun posters would be bashing someone all over the place if they predicted they would run sub 4 at milrose, and then failed miserably and never came close. Stahr was a great runner! But what Mrr82 said is 100% true. If this happened today everyone would be all over him for making statements that he didnt come close to backing up. And people would be all over Shorter for saying 58.6 was not to fast. So please let's not start with the Mrr82 is a javelin thrower crap when what he wrote was right on.

There's a big problem with your argument, Stahr never predicted he would break 4:00 at Millrose or any other race.

All the hype began after Carlotti took Stahr by surprise in winning the '82 Fifth Avenue Mile--both at 4:05. That same year I belive it was Sydney Maree who had run a 3:49/50 there and on the track that summer, so the times were taken seriously and the HS sub-4 predictions began. It was in fact Sports Illustrated that interviewed and ran an article on Carlotti and Stahr that fall.
