Huh? The majority of people eat in restaurants on the days preceding out of town races. At big meets or races, you can't go out to eat without spotting another team or group of runners. At the SEC XC Championships, probably half the teams were at Macaroni Grill the night before.

um, replacement shoes on short notice are a problem for anyone. one doesn't run a marathon with shoes that are not broken in. of course, meb has the advantage of arriving a few days in advance of a race so one would expect that even if luggage is delayed by a day (the usual time), he'd be just fine. us plebians don't generally enjoy such luxury so the "paranoia" is probably justified, especially in the case of a "one-shot" type race like the new york marathon. i'm sure he'll be tying them to the diaper bag in the future.

maybe it's just the airports that i've been to but i've only had checked baggage misplaced/delayed on direct flights; never had a problem with connections (though i do fly direct almost exclusively).

Their is more important things in life than running and one of them is family. Meb cares more about his child than running. When ever you go anywhere with babies you have to bring tons of shit. U never know what they are gonna need. Have u ever seen parents drop their little ones off at day care they have a huge bag full of diapers, bottles, clothes, and other things. You can't let the baby be hungry on the flight just to make room for your shoes.
