F I N A L L Y !!! I've been waiting years for this. Three cheers for the labs.
Now, if you want to take drugs out of the sport, you certainly can't do it with a lousy 2 year ban - who's that going to discourage? Instead, you not only ban them for life, but you strip anything they ever did out of the record books, and make them repay any prize money they earned along the way.

If you saw her at US nationals you could tell. her body looked completely different than it had the last couple of years, definitely not natural. though i don't know what EPO does for sprinters - anyone know?
Yeah, it was obvious. Back in the BALCO days, she didn't even look that big. Lately she was huge and ripped. Very unnatural looking.
To the poster that said that it doesn't make sense for her to be cheating now with all of the scrutiny, did it ever cross your mind that cheating is a necessity for her?
Please list athletes who received two year bans and did not have ruined careers.
Maybe Chambers, but he'll never be the same again.
Yes, now if they only caught Lance!
I've believed Jones was juiced up for years. This has to be the biggest black eye the sport has ever endured, and I'm not sure the sport can endure this one. It's good all the Jones apologists have to admit they've been duped. But when you love all what the sport represents, I can see why they held on to their hopes. It is a shame the apologists had to waste so much valuable time, however.
Jones cheated her way to fame and fortune and the track and field world will be hard-pressed to rid itself of this shit stain. Victor Conte has done his jail time (deservedly so) and the two writers may be looking at jail time. Marion Jones has conned the entire world, and she'll never do a day in jail. Masback ought to resign right now because it is obvious he is a clueless administrator. That guy couldn't manage a McDonalds.
The only good thing is that there wouldn't be any more "Up Close and Personals" with Jones that NBC used to jam down our throats. No more cheesy interviews. Just more adamant denials in front of the cameras. I hope she rots in hell for a good while.

Marion
Now that is a human growth hormone chin if I ever saw one.
She looks very natural and feminine in this photo. NOT!

OK, this is just crazy. Let's see- say you were using steroids, but never got caught, but people accused you of using steroids and you denied it over and over on TV and in the press.
Would you continue to use? Don't you think you just might consider stopping and competing clean to avoid getting caught and having the world know you are a lier and cheater?
It just doesn't make sense
JONES:
It makes sense for Jones because she tried running clean and couldn't run faster than the average "slow" pro runner. For Jones the choices were:
(1) run clean and embarrasing slow times,
(2) retire, or
(3) continue to dope and compete with the best in the world and hope not to get caught.
She chose (3) because it was the only option where she could go on earning millions of dollars annually, but her gamble didn't pay off.
GATLIN:
I believe that Gatlin can run great times without doping. However Gatlin likely felt he couldn't get the world record (for himself) without doping. It appears the he wanted an "unshard" world record bad enough that he gambled on doping. I suspect that his coach, Trevor Graham, talked Gatlin into in. With another coach Gatlin might not have doped. As the saying goes, if you sleep with dogs, eventually you will get flees.
This is going to sound bad but I'm happy. No longer will I have to be the jerk that accuses Marion of doping without any evidence. (Wait a minute, I've always had my version of proof but it only worked on sane-minded people.) Anyway I'm happy that Craig Masback has the onions to bust Gatlin and Jones. Bud Selig, not so much testicular fortitude.

With Floyd or Gatlin?
Would this count as her second offense if the B sample confirms the A, meaning possible lifetime ban? She did skip a drug test in high school.

Both. The only plausible explanation!

Any idea who's leaking this stuff to our intrepid Post reporter?
The leak didn't have to be from the USADA or USATF. There are numerous other possibilities. Marion could have told some close friends her "A" sample was positive, these friends could have mentioned it to other friends, etc. and the word slipped out to some newspaper reporter. Or the leak could have come from Marion's coach, agent, doctor, etc. who simply told a close friend -- who in turn notified the press.
Marion Jones is offically done in the sport of track & field and she is offically done with her fame and making fortunes at track meets. A two year ban is still a life sentence for her. More importantly she will not get to spend the next 20 years going around the country speaking at high schools making $5-8K a pop. Her GREED caught her. I am sad on many levels for T&F, but this is the happiest I have ever been to see someone get caught red handed.
Of course she will likely write a book and point fingers at everyone but herself and cry her tears that she was taken advantage of. The idiots will by it and feel sympathy for her. When she does remember, she is a fraud and a dirty, rotten cheater!
I keep hearing "leaks" or chatter that Craig Mottram also has a positive test out there from this year. I can't verify if it's true or speculation becuase of the haze USADA and WADA seems to keep around their testing. I'm tired of athletes continuing to compete and collect cash when they have a positive. ANY positive A or B.
USADA and USATF needs to stop hiding test reults! This is twice now they have blatantly hidden or witheld test results from the public. Zero tolerance means just that. Lifetime ban for one positive. USADA needs to live up to their words.
It's illegal to publicize a positive A test before a confirming B test.

If so, let's all read it in the aisle at the bookstore but don't buy it.
I meant don't buy the book. But we shouldn't buy the phony story either.
**Is this ok for you moderators? There are no longer any swear words and I want this post to remain. Thank you.**
Hi, my name is Merlene Ottey from Jamaica. See my 4th place finish results in the Sydney Olympics below:
September 23rd

7 S Fynes (Bah) 11.22
8 D Ferguson (Bah) 11.29
Now, maybe I was on drugs, too (but I've never tested positive), but I am pissed off that I didn't get an olympic bronze medal in 2000 (and I never will) because of the now-confirmed cheater Marion Jones.
Hello y'all! My name is Beverly McDonald from Jamaica! Well, let's cut to the dadgum chase here, that hussy owes me a medal too! I was 4th in Sydney in the 200m and Marion was gettin epo blasts back then too. When are you idiots in your big fancy offices going to make some rules that strip cheaters of their performances and re-award medals to deserving, clean athletes?

6 Australia Melinda Gainsford-Tayl 22.42
7 Australia Cathy Freeman 22.53

Greetings comrades. My name is T Kotova from the motherland of Russia. Even though I was almost certainly on a cocktail of performance enhancing drugs like most of my fellow elite countrywomen, I feel as if I deserve a medal too... considering I never tested positive like that cheat Marion Jones.

Hello Letsrun readers, we are a group of individuals who feel as if we were cheated by Marion Jones. Foremost in the group are L Ferga, M Hurtis, F Dia and C Arron from France. We feel as if we would have beaten the USA if they didn't have (at least) one cheater on their relay. Also in this group are the other members of the USA 4x100 team who felt as if Marion didn't work with us enough because she was too busy getting injections from CJ Hunter and co. Also, this group contains some unlucky USA athlete who deserved to run on this final relay instead of this cheating, lying, fraud.

FOLKS, THIS IS ONE MEET. ONE MEET. CHEATING DESTROYS DREAMS OF MANY, MANY HONEST INDIVIDUALS. THERE NEED TO BE LAWS AND RULES MADE TO STRIP CHEATERS OF THEIR LIFETIME ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND REWARD THOSE WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECEIVING MONEY, FAME, MEDALS AND LIFELONG PRIDE BUT INSTEAD WERE DEFEATED BY CHEATERS.
