I roomed with him the year he went to Lindenwood. He told me that in highschool he wanted to be a spinter, but his coach thought he might be a decent distance runner. His first year or running he never ran more than the 1000 meters....think he broke 2:30....i think. Said he didn't do anything the summer before he won Footlocker the 1st time. Pretty amazing.
At Lindenwood he finished 4th in the NAIA CC meet behind three Life Kenyans. He ran 24:0X at Kenosha.
Would have won the NAIA indoor 800 that year as well, but was making a move with 150 to go (the exact same time his teammate Ian Godwin was) and got tripped up with his teammate and DNF'ed. Injured for outdoor.
Left LU to run at Michigan State, but I don't think he ever made it up to E. Lansing.
He was VERY homesick when he was LU, and probably went home for the summer and never wanted to leave.
Wound up running for LIFE a couple years later and may have finished top-15 at NAIA CC that year.
He was a great friend and a HELL of a runner. Just didn't have the love for the sport that some others did/do. Always was trying to cut workouts short. I think there was one point during the outdoor season when he was eating AT LEAST 1 Big Mac a day....when they were offering the, for $0.99....not quite the diet of a serious runner.
I think he wanted to go to Arkansas after Lindenwood, but apprently there was some really deep-seaded dislike between him and Sharif Karie (who were both at LU together), and that may have affected his plans to go to Arkansas.
