If I really need to explain to you why, despite not having the fastest PR or maybe even the "most" chance at winning, Almgren will have the most eyes on him and why a white European attempting to run a performance that has only ever been achieved by East Africans (and only 6 of them, ever) is by far the biggest storyline of the race - win or not, then it's clear to me you are utterly clueless about this sport.
Norway crowd better be giving him the business the whole time

You are clueless if you think everyone has the same interest in a race. Europeans might focus on Almgren. Americans will be looking at Fisher, Nico, Blanks, and Wolfe (you might not have noticed, but there's a guy here who eagerly follows all of Fisher's interviews and racing activity). Aussies will be keen to watch Robinson. Africans have their own rooting interests. It's a diverse and stacked field.
If you think you're so smart, let's wager on it. If Almgren loses the race, you can't post on here for a month. If he wins, I'll spend the next month complimenting everything you say. You brave enough to accept?
That would be idiotic to accept that wager. Anyone saying No has all the best of it. Almgren's odds of winning certainly aren't 50% or anywhere nearby.
Granted, math isn't a specialty of this forum, as evidenced by everyone losing to normalcy yesterday with the Cam Myers time predictions. You might get someone stupid enough to accept. Contrast to 24 years in Las Vegas, where I only had 8 man to man wagers because the vast majority of guys in that environment fully understood math and probability.
Winning the 3000 at the LA Grand Prix this weekend. He'll entertain his fans in a race that will be broadcast live and free to the entire USA on NBC, unlike the meets in Europe that made a deal with the devil for a few bucks.
A 5000m field that stacked won't be all about Almgren. He won't even win the race.

I’m a fan of Almgren but he seems to be developing a habit of DNFing or throwing in the towel when things are not going perfectly. Call me old fashioned but it irks me a bit.

As an Almgren fan, I agree it is a bummer. However in his defence, his career is ravaged by injury after injury. At this stage in his career where he has managed to keep all cyclinders firing, there is no point risking major injury when there is always the next race. And given some of his great results over the past couple of years, I think he has earnt his spot in any upcoming race.
800- No Max Burgin (Oy vey) Mile- No Hakon Moe Berg
5000- No Nico Young
I hope Max isn’t hurt again. If he is, well, Don Paige showed a lot of promise but could never shake the injury bug. I hope it’s not a similar situation.
