I can attest to the wisdom of what malmo is saying. I did exactly this within the last couple of months and I cannot say what a joy it is!
Golden retriever, a rescue dog.
And yes, she is faster than I am and gets atleast 4 miles of runs in every day, and that's just for starters. It's fun and it has a purpose, for both of us. She loves it, too!
What Malmo said about babe magnet is so true - more often than not people stop to tell me how cute she is (and she is!).
But do consider this from the dog's perspective - are you home enough to avoid having the dog alone for big stretches of a day and can you guarantee she/he will get regular attention throughout the day? It's an enormous responsibility, and I don't really see how a single person who has to go into the office several days each week could do it unless you hire a dog walker on those days, which is always a possibility.
EDIT: if not home enough to guarantee dog gets enough attention and exercise, maybe a small dog would be a better option - one that doesn't need so much exercise. I am not knowledgable about the small dogs, so best to get a professional's opinion on that...
A border collie would be an awful choice for Jamin. They are working dogs that instinctively herd. My friend had a fast sad collie and I swear that dogs only joy was rounding up toddlers into the corner of a room yard without them realizing it.
It was a funny bit at gatherings, but mostly I’m pretty sure the dog was miserable. It was fat and anxious. They don’t like just running they need a job.
Conversely, I worked with a lady whose brother had a collie. They lived next to each other on a split farm and whenever she needed to gather her chicken she’d holler and he’d sprint over and get every chicken in the coop. He had chores and two neighboring 20 acre parcels to guard against foxes, raccoons or whatever wanted to eat chickens.

Excellent. An awful dog would keep Jamin too busy to watch whatever meaningless videos he is going to watch today.

If you don't have a yard or go on lots of walks, a cat is probably a better pet than a dog. Although if Jamin is getting a pet, I think a dog is a better choice for him.
Dogs crap and piss everywhere, eat your furniture, have to go to the vet and are basically an expensive burden.
If you enjoy walking them and the responsibilities - go for it.
Personally I prefer not to have nasty dog hair in my living space.
Plus dogs. bark at all hours.
A huge burden with minimal payoff.
And if you need a dog to initiate conversations with women - the dog won't make up for those shortcomings.
Based Greg is correct.
A dog is actually terrible for dating prospects. For one, 10% of women are allergic to dogs. So now you've eliminated 10% of the dating pool. For another, many women already have a dog, and their dog might not get along with yours, so there's another 10% eliminated. Genius.

A dog is all downside no upside.
You haven't been following. Jamin has never dated AT ALL. 10% of nothing is still nothing.
Despite being lonely Jamin already has friends, lots of them. All of them are normal people. He just needs to get out of Jamin mode and get into normal mode. I'm not a psychologist but I do know what he needs to do moving forward. Peter Thiel is not the answer.
1. A woman in my building as a 10 year old dog that belongs on a farm. It's a big husky dog. I'm not sure what kind of breed. Always barking outside the front entrance. One day I went to pet it and it calmed down. It just wants attention. It doesn't belong in an apartment building. It needs to be running around outside.
2. Another neighbour from my building had a small dog. It was blind. She let it out onto the balcony. She was on the 8th floor. Dog walked off the balcony. RIP.
I had a nice run this morning, about 8-ish miles on the Dreadmill at the gym. Then the cold plunge, then the hot tub. Good times. Running is the GOAT, how could one give this up? Get with it southbound.........
Many people leave their dogs inside the entire day.
A medium-large size dog needs 2 hours exercise daily.
Yes. This seems right. We manage to get out dog that much and more, and most of it is very quality exercise. It hardly seems enough. And in fact, by all estimations, it isn't.

I'll try it, my gym has a sauna in both the men's and women's locker-rooms and a coed sauna by the indoor pools. I have used a sauna before by the way.............
99.99% of people dont want to do that, sadly. They want to selfishly replicate their mid (on average) DNA via an act of sin that is sexual intercourse and if it were filmed for a porno people would projectile vomit.

If we are being honest, the ones put up for adoption are on average below mid.
