Not clear? It's actually very clear. The USATF rules specifically state that you can't run in the Dec 6, 2025 USATF U20 race if you aren't eligible to run in the Jan 10, 2026 World Championships U20 race.
So the person in question, Zariel Macchia, can't run in the USATF U20 race on Dec 6, 2025.

Post #41 explains SELECTION to Team USA for U20 Worlds.
If you look under "Technical Instructions," they explain PARTICIPATION in the USATF U20 race.
"5. Age Limits: Open runners must be 16+ on race day. U20 runners must be ages 14 to 19 on race day and cannot turn 20 at any time in 2025. Master runners must be ages 40+ on race day."

So you should be able to run it if you don’t turn 20 by December 31, 2025?
No.
The main point of the USATF U20 race is to choose the top 5 individuals to go to World U20. How in the world would the runners in the USATF U20 race know if they were in the top 5 during the race if you allowed non-eligible runners to compete? It would totally throw off everyone's race strategy.
So obviously USATF won't allow people who aren't eligible to run in a "selection event".
With only Blanks, Mantz, Wolfe, Strand, and Bor entered, among our top guys, a medal is going to be tough, and gold looks out, unless Nico, Fisher, and Hocker enter late. This will be a huge lost opportunity. Very disappointing as an American xc fan.
Based on 5,000m lists this year, our best guys would be:
1 12:44.09 Grant FISHER (two-time hs national xc champ) 2 12:45.27 Nico YOUNG (NCAA runner-up) 3 12:48.20 Graham BLANKS (entered/two time NCAA xc champ) 4 12:57.05 Cooper TEARE (entered/really struggled to finish NCAA xc in Tallahassee when Mantz won) 5 12:57.82 Cole HOCKER (world gold at 5000m and has won club champs xc) 6 13:02.58 Olin HACKER (entered) 7 13:04.98 Kasey KNEVELBAARD 8 13:05.47 Morgan BEADLESCOMB 9 13:06.15 William KINCAID 10 13:07.49 Ahmed MUHUMED 11 13:07.77 Rocky HANSEN 12 13:07.89 Dylan JACOBS 13 13:12.89 Marco LANGON 14 13:13.11 Sean MCGORTY (entered) 15 13:13.46 Casey CLINGER 16 13:13.49 Parker WOLFE (excellent xc runner if healthy) 17 13:14.95 Andrew HUNTER (two-time national hs xc champ?) 18 13:15.28 Bob LIKING (used to eat up big ten xc titles for breakfast, low 28 roads 10k just now) 19 13:15.44 Brian BARRAZA 20 13:15.58 Sam GILMAN (Fisher's training partner also not signed up, to my knowledge)
I think Wiley just won a 5K road race in Indiana recently and will be running the Turkey Trot that she does every year. I'm sure she has no interest in XC this fall
She won (jogged) a small road 5K about a month ago in 18:53 and ran the USATF Indiana XC State Champs last week in 17:04. Only competition was a guy who ran 16:51.

Crazy seeing all these times on one list, especially knowing some of these guys have better PRs (Kincaid, Hunter) or are absent due to injury (Abdi Nur).
people talk about the depth in the US Men’s 1500, but I think the 5K is just as deep if not moreso. Not as top heavy maybe but 13:10 puts you around 20th in the US in a season. Crazy

Seems like Nico will be entering, still not listed though
What is Taylor Roe’s status? She was an unexpected no show in NYC, and hasn’t shown up on this entry list either. Not a peep from her in months. Please contact her agent so we can get to the bottom of this.
