Yes indeed, excellent race Abdi.
Pretty pathetic that people cant even give him his dues, before wondereringw hat happened to Ritz.
Of course its racist..you indentify most with who you look like..and distance running in the US is a white sport. Hence the added resentment and frustration of losing in every event to black Africans and now black immigrants.
Sorry to burst your bubble hater, but Meb, Abdi, Lagat KK and more like them are the future face..and color of elite distance runing in the US.
DEAL WITH IT.
But in the meantime sit in your circles and email each other and wonder if Ritz had too many miles in his legs......yawn.

To bad the majority of track fans wont look at you in a good enough light to care about it though.
Youre not the all-american white boy the US wants. Simple fact it sucks I wish it wasnt true I dont agree with it. It dosent seem like you will ever shake it though. But 27:22 is 27:22 and a great race!
That is the simple answer. But the reason for me is that Abdi is not much of a professional, and he is not young anymore. He also didn't have one of the best high school careers of any distance runner ever.
If he was 23-24 and he had run 8:44y/13:44 in high school and had won 5 National HS championships and then went on to run 13:27 as a frosh ... well, I would really think he has more to give, but he has been at the same level for years and years. He also seems more concerned about his pimped-out ride and playing rap music in it than getting that last 10 seconds out of himself in the 10k so he could be AR holder.
Just my opinion.
I also think the tattoos on Webb and Ritz and Hartmann are f***ing gay. Any tattoo on any distance runner is f***ing gay. It is like ruining a work of art, or giving yourself a wicked scar on purpose. Please, if you feel you must scar your physique forever do it with some class like Joe Falcon had or something along those lines. Pat Porter's tattoo was gay too. It made him look like a gay porn star.
I thought only Webb had a tatoo thats chinese thing what do the other two have? Ive never seen them...

This could be it. My theory is that Abdi is an ass, none of his peers like him, and isnt good with the media. He would be receiced alot better if he wasnt such a jackass, I think.
Ive read about him and Meb hanging out a lot at competitions.

He still ran a 27:45 at the end of May. I'd take it.
Yeah, and just look at all the Africans he beat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of gay, bloody great call their Flagpole Willy, "Ritz in 27:22." Moron.
Wrong!
Here is my EXACT quote:
"I have lots less to go on this time, but even I would be surprised if he broke the American Record this time. I'll say best-case scenario is 27:22, but I have a feeling he will run slower than he did against Webb."
So, what did he do...ran slower than against Webb -- just what I said. The only reason I put a best-case scenario out there was because someone asked me to.
So:
1) I wasn't adamant about a time or a place as I have been in the past, because I had less to go on this time.
2) I said I thought he'd run slower than he did against Webb.
3) So, your attempt to make me look wrong was...well...wrong.
Why anyone even cares as to what Flagpole predicts or says is beyond me.
He got it right though about you being gay.
You actually emigrate to somewhere!

I think what is holding Ritz back is his silly name "Dathan" - couldn't his mom spell Nathan? So, what is his full name? Dathaniel?
When his mom was pregnant with him, her ob/gyn determined (wrongly, as it happened) that he would be born without eyesight. Hoping to make light of an otherwise bitter situation, she decided to name him Dathan rather than the previously selected "Beelzebubba" so that the family could refer to him wittily as "Blind Date." Well, as it happened the lad was blessed with vision after all, but the name stuck and the rest is history.

Word.
If Dathan is planning on continuing to run on the track he should work with Alberto. I recognize that there is a bad history between himself and Adam. That doesn't mean that Al can't help him.
If Dathan plans to become a marathoner, he needs to start working with Hansons. I believe that they are the only ones that have guys running to their potential in the marathon.
In either situation he needs to drop Hudson today.
what is the rift between dathan and goucher?
Just that Goucher always looked down upon Torres and Ritz. Probably just a little bit of jealousy. I think that Ritz and Hartman could both benefit greatly by training with the Hansons,
doubt it. hansons aren't good about injuries and have only had success with a handful of the dozens that have come through their camp

Which sub 28:30 guy has failed under the Hansens? these guys start with 29:00 guys. Verran was a 14:15 guy. Briney was a 29:10 guy. A guy like Ritz would run 2:06 under the Hansens. I think that injuries are more likely when you have guys that just aren't good to begin with.
Hansons do a great job creating marathoners. Most 29:30 guys aren't good enough to run 2:15 and the Hansons are not willing to invest in guys that can't handle 2:15. This means that a greater percentage of athletes are going to end up hurt because they are over extending their abilities. I don't think that Ritz would fall into that category.
OK, Flag, maybe you were not too off THIS time. But I truly don't get all these people who were saying after Ritz's opening 10k against Webb (and you contributed some comments that were in line with these ideas a few times yourself)-
(more or less....) 'Ritz opened in 27:35, gee....he is gonna take tons of time of that performance by years end. Think about it, he is not sharp or in great shape at all. Just wait until year's end and he will be running low 27's!'
And I answered those thoughts, several times, with: (more or less)-
' Ritz ALWAYS opens strong. And Ritz IS in good shape RIGHT NOW. He has been training hard since fall, geared up for a big x-c season, and then had a small illness that set him back. He has HUGE base behind him and is better shape than most think. AND.....he almost always gets hurt, sick, or plateaus fairly early in the season. SO......why would people expect some big drop for Ritz from his 27:35 by the end of the season? I don't. Ritz's end of the season could easily be right around the corner (it often is for him), AND...he is in great shape right now. '
In other words: I will be happily surprised to see Ritz run 27:25 or better this year. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him not break 27:30. And I also think getting right near 27:20 for his career would be a huge accomplishment for him. sub 27:00 ?? PUH-leeeaze. Flag, you still sticking with your 26:50/12:50 career predictions for Ritz? If so......wow, you are stubborn if nothing else.

Well, remember that my 5,000 prediction was ONLY if he didn't move up to the marathon soon, and guess what, he's moving up to the marathon. So, since his training and focus will be different, I doubt now that he will run the 12:50 I KNOW he's capable of. I'll stick with the 10,000 prediction, assuming he doesn't JUST become a marathoner.
One of the reasons I picked Ritz to run slower in this last race was because he wasn't one of the favorites. So far, he has tended to run fast when he was the favorite, and he does less well when he's not (not just in placings, but in TIME, which is the important thing here).
26:50 is within his range.

No idea. But in RWTB, didn't Goucher get outraged when Slattery, a freshman, had the audacity to run fast and move ahead of Goucher in an interval? If that's Goucher's attitude, then I can understand some rifts between himself and others. In the case with Slattery, that's a horribly selfish approach versus a team attitude.
