obviously not very good at logic?
it's not at all "like making an ammendment that says all the broadcasting stations have to spend an equal amount of money covering and broadcasting all sports"
that would be an ammendment that required media to cover college sports equally.
The correct analogy would be an ammendment that required all marathons to award prize, travel, and appearance money for men and women in proportion to the ratio of male/female participants overall.
There is no such ammenment, and you know why?
Because the government dosen't impose such limitations on private businesses and events. This is capitalism.
Title IX applies to schools that are FEDERALLY FUNDED (which even most private schools are). This is important becasue it makes schools accountable to the government and basically means that they have to follow their rules.
If equal funding and scholarships don't constitute opportunity what does? Equal # of teams? Title IX requires that, and without it schools would not have equal # of teams.
You have to understand that while YOU think that there should be and are equal opportunities for men and women to participate in sports, not everyone thinks like you. There are PLENTY of people in VERY HIGH positions in the sports world that would eliminate a lot of women's sports if they had the opportunity.
Why do schools eliminate men's sports? Funding for something that does not produce revenue.
What are bacisally all women's sports? Non-revenue producing teams.
