Have been to many Millrose Games then missed the last few, but went back this year.
+ Yea too long to get the track back together - simple put teh sprints at the end of the evening so the track goes down once and then finished. Sure the big event - the mile will not be last, but who really cares.
+ Empty seats - they tried to sell those seats for $10 each at the Armory where there are tons of HS meets and it does not work. In order to get the kids in the seats you need to get a name runner there they know. Sad to say but very few HS kids today know who Lagat or Bekele are. USA T&F needs a new face - a Carl Lewis, a Marion Jones, a JJK - a track athlete they all know on sight and a name they know. There is not one really anymore.
+ None Pro events - what events really got the crowd into it? The HS miles and the 4 x 8 look at this and add more of these. In one local paper it was reported that Fordham Prep(winner of the HS 4 x 8) had 400 fans there in 1 section. Hmmm maybe if they had a 4x 8 for NJ/LI and suburban NY teams (B&G of course) you will sell more seats. A 50m dash of 5th graders is cute but I will bet we will NEVER see one of these kids run in HS so we can stop trying to sell events like this as being the "future stars". Those 12 kids that got to run(6 boys & 6 gals) combined I will bet only brought in like 120 paying fans - far short of the Fordham Prep crowd.
+The music- I was at the Armory College meet the day after Millrose and walked out with a headache. Now there is playing music as back ground filler and then there is what they were doing - blasting music. Now I like music just as much as the next person and I am not saying it has no place at a track meet, but keep it down for the simple reason that I would like to talk to freinds and others about teh events we are seeing without having to screem.
+The idea of lights and smoke or something - yea sure would be great - hell it works for WWF and they sell out and draw in the young fans - why not.
+The mens shot was great as are the vaulters - both events show life and the people in it look like they are having fun. God stuff
The people at Global really know how to put on a meet - lets hope they will keep working n Millrose so it will regain its former glory.
