Mullen is a darkhorse winner candidate Saturday. He ran 14:50 at state on a wet course and meet officials were even saying the course was closer to 5k.
He got crushed, and they finished behind brother Martin. Jesuit is a joke on the National scene
Maybe jesuit la was overhyped by milesplit/dyestat and the teams that they ran against are actually really good?
For example: Jesuit La 2022 had the same speed ratings and rankings as Southlake Carroll 2023 team did. Would the 2022 team have beaten Carroll at nxr south?

Mullen started off in 80th place or so at the mile and finished 9th. Probably was feeling rusty from travel. Jesuit beat Brother Martin 3 times handily this season. You think they were really the 7th best team in the region?
Brother Martin improve significantly towards the end of the season. Their early races were not the same as the later ones. They finished a few points behind Jesuit La at their state meet. At NXR, their performance was even better than it was at the state meet. If you look at each runner, nobody had a bad day when in comparison to one another’s race at the state meet. Brother Martin got 5th 200 points behind the 1st place finisher.
Yes, they ran great, but won nothing this season. Maybe Jesuit had to go to the well a bit more and didn't recover as great for NXR, but they also ends the season with hardware and BM doesnt.
Jesuit is a solid team but they sure do seem to get on this message board and self promote all season long. Here’s the facts from yesterday:
1. They had a bad day. It happens. Blaming it on the LA state meet (which is a glorified dual meet) is weak. If they are that fragile, they aren’t a championship team. Running at Nike South means you better be ready to compete in a deep, tight, competitive field. Their guys were a total non-factor all day.
2. At their best, they would have been 5th at this meet. They are slightly better than Brother Martin. At their best, they were going to be the 4th team in the South, but light-years behind Southlake Carroll and well back of Bentonville and Vandergrift. Please note that Vandergrift had a terrible day and still finished 3rd.
No need for excuses. They had a bad day. It happens, but they weren’t close to being on the same level as the top 3 teams.
Agree to disagree. They could have been top 2-3 today. It's not that they are fragile, but traveling 15 hours in 5 days puts them at a disadvantage. Obviously Brother Martin was able to run without the pressure of expecting to qualify. I think next year they should focus on winning Running Lane though, because as I mentioned before, hardware is better than none.

I think there is still time for Jesuit to sign up for RunningLane for this year

why can't this team just admit that they were overhyped?
No matter how you see it there is no way Jesuit La could have finished top 3, even if they were to have the best race of their life and all their runners were healthy.

Krampus is not a spokesperson for the team. 4th place was the absolute ceiling. Trust me, no one associated with Jesuit is delusional enough to think otherwise. Top 3 teams in the south region are very strong. I think they’ll have a good showing on the national stage (assuming vandergrift receives an at large). Let’s move on and focus on other teams that earned bids. Carroll looked like a serious national champion contender…

Crawford didn’t do track but he was their #2 runner earlier this season in big meets (Southern Showcase / Niketown) but he was probably injured during NXR so he didn’t race that
Vocke was their #1 runner in some meets in 2021 but he was their #7 at NXR.
Looks like they needed to have some youngsters fill in and do better than others would have expected. They had 1 freshman and 2 sophs in the NXR lineup.
And yes they were a much better team last year (when they had 3 seniors scoring) than this year.
They only lose 2 seniors off a team that won state and those seniors will be replaced relatively easy by the guys they have on JV. They've got 4 who broke 10 in a time trial so they have plenty of options for next year, not including some decent 8th graders that'll be freshman next year. Brother Martin loses 4 of their top 5 and their #8 I believe so they'll have a pretty decent rebuilding project. Jesuit should have a clear path to winning state next year again, and they'll need to decide if they want to roll the dice again with NXR or go all in on RL.

"All in on RL" is like choosing the NIT tournament over NCAAs.
That's such a stupid take. Very few programs make it to NXN, and even fewer podium. Sure, it's cool to say you qualified, but take Jesuit for example. They could probably place higher at RL than NXR, but will end their season on a disappointing note instead of going to RL and finishing with some new PRs and a high finish in a national race. To be honest I thought the reason they raced at the RL course earlier in the season was to get a chance to race it prior to RL. Mullen can win that race next year and Jesuit has a good shot to win it all. Or you can go to NXR, maybe destroy your confidence if you don't perform up to par, and end the season on a low note again. The region will probably be just as tough next year.

That is true. Southlake Carroll and Austin Vandegrift will be very good again.
Southlake Carroll is solid as always (and returns 4 varsity guys),
and Austin Vandegrift loses only 2 seniors and have some good underclassmen on JV. They also always seem to have a freshman scoring for their varsity
The thing about Jesuit LA is that their older guys don’t improve as much they should. This is why Jesuit didn’t do as well as predicted before the season started.
Vocke and Sampedro were their #1&3 in 2021, but this year they were their #4&5 or somewhere around that.
