This QOD seems a bit ignorant. I suppose the internet wasn't as good as it is now but I'd expect anyone in a major final would know their competitors in & out with medals at stake. It's not exactly like Choge was as unknown as Mottram makes him sound. Choge had an incredible junior career and had already run fast over 5,000 & had done well in big races on the tour. I get the frustration of not winning but his quote sounds shallow. Sounds like he's implying another African who is probably doping came out of nowhere to take a medal from him. Choge ran better than him that day. He was a great runner too.

You're kidding aren't you....a Kenyan winning a 5,000m medal isn't an exceptional event, it simply isn't a story equivalent to remembering someone that put up a massive fight on his own territory, in front of 100,000 supporters, on his 40th birthday.
There are numerous stories about exceptional Kenyan performances.
