1hr 53min mountain bike ride in Knowsley forest and out around Lake Eppalock. 40 deg C. Well and truly battered and fried by the end. As quiet as could be in the forest. Spooked a few wallabies out from under logs and the occassional roo from under trees. Several pelicans on the lake. Spotted a wedge tail eagle and also a whistling eagle doing aerial work above the lake.
It looks like my Merry Christmas thread eluded the troll's detection. Could this be the start of something new? Well it makes me comfortable enough to post again this soon.
I wanted to be the first DYRTer to offer a Happy New Year to one and all. Here's hoping the new year finds me back on the roads and back on this thread on a regular basis. I want to again help contribute to this epic thread which has blossomed beyond all hope I had at its genesis.

I had a very encouraging track workout last night - looks like I am in a good position for my first track season in 24 years. 800s a second or two faster than usual and 300s well, I rigged up pretty good but did go faster than I had in the 800s.

FYI: All residents of lower Michigan are referred to as trolls, by residents of Upper Michigan. They live below the Mackinac Bridge. Residents of Upper Michigan proudly accept being termed "Yoopers" in return.
Tues.PM 38 minute run along the waterfront of he Portage Canal. Legs felt great and I stretched into a wicked cannonball on the downhill to the Motel to wrap up a vigorous day.
Colder morning than the last couple. 45 mins. on the Nordic skiis. Under dressed for the temps., I bailed out for the warming house.
Sometimes new year's eve can feel like being together on the starting line of a race: noone is 100% sure of how hey are going to do, and the hope is for everybody to cross the finish line ok.
I have always thought that the ideal finish line should be warm and welcoming enough for the early ones to stay and wait for the slower ones to arrive.
And that it should be more like a living room with patio than a hospital ward with an emergency room.
Special O2, 123, gonzo, track chick, rd, skuj, driske, mopak, jack, finally, all handles before and after, readers and posters, trolls and trolls to the negative 1 alike,... a toast for a 2010 full of health and joy.
It doesn't always happen. Here's to hoping it does.

NYE fireworks last night. Provided by good old Thor himself. I was going to do some barefoot strides on the Tom Flood Oval after work (10pm). 2 laps into the warmup and the ground was shaking with the thunder. Shoes went back on and into the car.
A hairy drive home as gale force winds meant weaving between fallen branches for most of the 50km journey. The lightshow was far superior to any human effort. I had a great vantage point driving the highway.
This morning, 1st of 1st 2010. A rather relaxed 1hr run through the local forest. Sticky humid. Many a kangaroo for company. Also some wallabies and a parade of birds along the trails.
The first day of the year is coming to an end here in Oz. A nice day, time shared with all my kids and my 2 grand-daughters.

A full blown thunder storm does make the best fireworks seem feeble in comparison. Glad to hear all is well in Oz.
AM. 2 hour ski with the Bride at Brown Co. trails north of Green Bay. With her skating and myself going Classic style it was a fair match. I had to work at a high level to match her pace.
PM. 2 mile run/walk with the older Border Collie. Clear skies and moderate temps. made for a relaxed outing. The trail took us under a flock of roosted turkeys.What a racket as they took wing on this quiet night.
In Cortona with family and friends till sunday. Has been raining almost non stop.
Welcomed 2010 last night and just after midnight and a couple of firecrackers set off safely for the kids, the sky cleared to reveal an incrediblly reassuring full moon, blanketing blue light to the horizon, shining like a mirror on the Trasimeno lake.
Yesterday: After a full night rest and and some cheerful dreaming (unusual for me), at lunchtime, under the pouring rain, went solo for the extended Camucia-Cortona-Le Celle monastery-Cortona-Camucia loop: 1h13mins of bliss. If it is going to be in anyway an indicator of how 2010 is going to be, well, optimism does not do enough to the concrete sense of wellness i came back home with.
Today: 55mins total, went to the parking lot for some intervals and then a half mile uphill back home.

And let me say that it feels wonderful to suddenly go from 2 year "units" in 2009, to 1 year unit to The MOARG in 2011.

Just recieved a card from an old "Gimmelwald" buddy today, he now lives in Ireland.
Hopefully I can return to the little village I still sometimes have dreams of.
No run yesterday. I went out with my wife on another training hike with the packs. Just a brisk climb up and down the McIvor Range.
We will be heading to Tasmania Feb 17th for our 6 day excursion of the Overland Track.
first, a belated happy new year to all positive DYRT contributors......okay, even the troll/Skuj......followed up my last 'mill session with one slightly longer two days later.....no probs, so hit the roads for about 35' the next day.....some mild tightness, but I slowed down (if that is possible) and it eased up....that was new year's eve....haven't run since due to weather and work.....hoping to get the first run of 2010 in soon....
