Luke Kibet is a great guy--lots of personality, and as mentioned runs well in warm/humid over a tough course. Ran a smart race, and must be THRILLED...could be a Kenyan sweep with Catherine the Great running. She'll do well in the tough conditions as well. An exciting race---and what I like about Oly Games and World Champs is that they are exciting RACES (Country Music Marathon in fact has had some great races--not fast times, but GREAT racing)
Sorry for the multiples, but I kept getting error messages, but NO JOKE, I don't see any other top three, except for Japan.
Ogata slow-mo on final stretch shows glasses bouncing all over his face, which he then throws very angrily on the ground right after crossing finishline behins Asmerom. He was really POed...
Kenyan guy just finished in about 2:37:12.
Mike, what about Spain, Kenya, and Korea and I believe it is scored by time not by points. If indeed the US was 2nd, that would be Awesome!
i think you are right japan wins gold, i do not see a 3rd finisher for kenya, ethiopia had a runner at 220 then there next guy ran 22750 then ethiopia's 3rd man went around 230-231, marrocco has 2 runners way back, dont think qatar beat the usa, have to wait but wow 2nd or even 3rd would be great.
Just saw it flash on the screen, Mike Morgan, 23rd, in 2:23
I think I just heard an announcer at the track say USA was fourth?
Omigosh. They ARE human. Tough conditions out there.
I think I heard the stadium announcer say USA was fourth.
Three Kenyans were in the top 10, but one runs for Qatar, so that means Kenya has to count the 2:37 guy, so the US being top 3 seems a reality in the team score!
Third Kenyan was, I believe, the guy who finished in 2:37:12 or so.
It is scored by times, which I have not done, so I could be premature, but to have three guys run that well is still damned exciting.
U.S. fourth!
Kenya:
1, 8, 52 (Kagika, 2:37:13)
Are you sure this is the same Luke Kibet who won the Country Music Marathon? The IAAF start lists says he's only 24, while an article I found about the CMM said he won it in 2004 at the age of 29.

I heard that, too. Not sure if that was referring to the team marathon results, but I don't know what else it would be referring to.
Is it real to say that those who do blood doping and manipulate the red blood cell count, which is obvious with Morrocan runners, tend not to run well over 33 degrees C? This race really does prove that Morrocans have overly thick blood and cannot run in the heat. This top 25 may be one of the cleanest in World Champs history based on the heat and that CRITS over 49 just cannot compete in this HEAT!
