I don't really see how Wesleyan was tooting its own horn, they didn't exactly finish well as a team, not much to toot. And Watson got 2nd, it's not tooting his horn for someone to say he broke up the pack in the last mile and finished tremendously well. That's what happened.

That said, LORD JEFFS BABY! NE CHAMPS!

Tufts: 2003, 2004, 2005 NESCAC and NE regional champions.

They've been here for years.

It helped that Sorensen "All-American steepler" and Kantos "14:46 as a soph" showed up on race day. A better question is where did Faller come from? If they had a fifth guy they would've won. How weird.

Tufts really came together as the seniors are the last remains of the Connie Putnam Era. What happened to the McNeish kid he was fast in high school like 935 for 2 miles and ran sub 16 at numerous 5k courses? Anyways congrats to the lord jeffs.

Williams should be the top NE team at Nationals as they have way more talent than anyone else. But peaking has been a problem for them the last few years.

Tufts had a great day but can not do it again and Amherst is a fluke. MIT was horrendous not sure what happened there.

Pretty impressed with Amherst. In addition to graduation losses, they lost Morrissey and didn't get much of a contribution from Lakehomer. Their top 5 at regionals has been pretty consistent throughout. They should be very good for at least the next couple of years provided they can avoid the injury bug. Still think Williams is the better team however.

Williams is fading, seriously, that team should have won. Lord Jeff and Jumbos, you guys are awesome. I think they both beat Williams this weekend.

FACE REALITY AND GET OVER IT. Williams and Amherst are basically the same school, Williams has more students which allows them to admit more athletes that are below their normal admission standards. They also fund their athletic department more heavily. Amherst, Tufts, and Trinity are just as talented at the top. Tufts had a great race up front, and as was mentioned could win if they have a #5 come in around where other top teams' did. Norte's troubles hurt Trinity, as does a lack of depth. Amherst didn't even have their best race, this was no fluke for them. Yochum was solid but was 2nd at Nescac to only P.Kosgei and Murner could be 10-15 spots up. No disrespect to Williams, but they're not that much more talented than everyone else. They have simply been more consistent, and their depth makes off races few and far between. Amherst capitalized on Saturday, and I think they deserve the win, hats off to them.

congrats to amherst on a great day for their whole team, men and women. as a previous poster pointed out, they have done this without tomas and lakehomer. on top of that, harbus hasn't been a scorer and one of their stud recruits is either injured or not running yet. ned did a great job of working with the hand he was dealt and succeeding. was there a single person on this thread that didn't predict a williams victory?

the ephs did have an off day (except for edgar), but despite some subpar races they almost managed to squeak out the win. they are not at the level we saw a month ago at franklin park.

tufts and trinity were the most impressive. good for those teams. and congrats to bowdoin for getting a nationals bid for the 2nd year in a row.

looking ahead, what can we expect from the new england teams in northfield? i suspect williams will bounce back and finish in the 8-10 range with the lord jeff's a few spots back. Edgar's low stick (top 15-20 I think) will be the difference. tufts' 5th man issues will hurt them a lot - same with trinity. jumbos in 18th, bantams 25th, polar bears bring up the rear in 28th.

most intriguing question might be whether or not showtime watson can repeat his huge performance at regionals again at NCAAs to garner an AA certificate.

Without Kosgey, Willams would not have made nationals. Their "home-grown," unimported talent is nothing to be too proud of this week. And the Trinity guys probably have higher SAT scores than you...

I love the NESCAC. Everyone get's their panties in a bunch about SAT scores and where a runner comes from. The rest of the world doesn't give a crap about what SAT courses were supplied or school district your parents bought into. You line up, people perform, you tally the scores. You measure hard work and a person's character, not an anonymous person's outside perspective of events, people, or places. I would venture to guess everyone that was running on Saturday has avoided commenting, and thank goodness for that, because those were the brave souls that deserve respect and value putting one foot in front of the other. Is there no brotherhood in cross-country anymore. Insecurities spread like the NESCAC-rash on this board. Get over yourselves.

Where do people think the New England teams and individuals will finish on Saturday at Nats? More All Americans than last year (2?)? More than one team in the top 10-15?

Butcher

Williams top 10

Amherst top 15

The region is not strong this year in terms of individuals or teams. Sorry guys, but the Midwest/Atlantic teams are going to dominate.
