Paul Ryan's marathon

I ran a mid 2:55 marathon at Grandma's in 1984 for my PR, pre-chip, and know how much time it took me to get to the start, which was painted. So I consider my PR to be 2:54:42. Big whoop, but it's an honest time in my mind.

Ryan lied about his time, just like he lied about wanting to save Medicare, and apparently Rojo is being an apologist for him. Sad. Guess it all depends on what Party he belongs to? What does it take before your stomach turns inside out, or your ethics make you stand up and says "enough!" to the greed and fear that he stands for, much less for the denial of climate change, that will certainly affect our running greatly in the years to come.

The guy has gotten so used to getting results as a liar that he just keeps going with lies.

Part typical politician, part Republican.

What if your gun time was 10 seconds over BQ and it took you 15 seconds to get to the starting line? Would you claim having qualified for Boston?

I *think* chip timing and the concept that your personal time starts when you cross the starting line and NOT when you hear the gun, started around 1995.

The first race with chip timing was the 1993 Zevenheuvelenloop, and the first marathon with chip timing was the 1994 Berlin marathon.

There are *still* races which only use gun time - like the Comrades marathon with his famous 12 hour cut-off time.

Normally I wouldn't even blink about him lying, er, forgetting what his marathon pr is. But two reasons I will comment:

a) a few years ago john kerry said he jumped in as a bandit in boston one year, and didn't remember the time he ran or exact year. The right wingers on here had a field day saying he HAD to be lying even though he didn't claim any great time (in fact, no time at all). So turnabout is fair play here. (and ryan has proven to be a liar this time, unlike last time)

b) while all politicians lie and fudge numbers, Ryan/Romney have taken this to a new low. Romney of course is the flip flopper par excellence who has changed his position on nearly every possible issue I can think of, and Ryan is famous for budget plans that are supposed to be honest, fair, moderate blue-prints for our country's economic health, while in reality they are the most extreme right wing prescription of cutting programs for the poor and giving tax cuts (YET AGAIN!) for the rich. And he includes absolute beyond-belief-claims that he will cut all non-discetionary spending to something like 3% of gdp, when the well-guarded military spending is something like 4.5% BY ITSELF!

He's a scam artist of the highest order. Glad to see it's becoming more obvious.

So why are they removing all texts about the Marathon on his Wikipedia page? The P90X and how fit he is stays but how slow of a Marathoner he is and how he lies gets deleted?

You, Rojo, the person who has been fighting for truth in athletics should not try to equate that with the 57 states thing. Lets run does not care bout geography here. I mean 57 states do not exist, the time Ryan said exists and thus more believable without fact checking.

Otherwise you stop the Block, Gatlin, Lance and other passionate fights you participate in.

He is a liar, it does not matter in policy and power. But in athletics and on lets run that matters and do not try to make excuses for him we will respect you more

Just read this comment. Having run under 3hrs and climbed a few dozen Colorados 14ers, both claims have that distinct whif of BS. You can't just go for a drive and hike multiple fourteeners in a day or a weekend. It takes considerable time. It takes time just to find some of the trailheads on a map and drive there. Sometimes you have to abandon due to weather or time and try it again another day.

If you're just peak-bagging you can line up several of the Collegiates in a few days - maybe as many as ten - but to ring up the other 30 might take you 20-25 separate outings. All day type outings where you're going to be spent by the time you get back home even if you're a hard-man type athlete. Did the guy even live in CO? If not there's no chance he did this. Even if he did live there for an entire summer or two it would be a significant feat that would have taken up almost every weekend. He probably made the summit of 6-8 of them, if that, and decided to call it 40.

For the record, it surprises me not at all that a politician would lie about anything. Take the money out of politics and watch all these shysters leave for Wall St or University administrations or some other hell hole swamp.

I called it!!!!!! I've only run one marathon and I could tell it was BS!!!

I'm in! I'm not sure how we disprove it, though. We'd need dates and climbs. We'd also need to know who he was with and we'd have to get them to admit that he didn't make the climb he claims he did. OR prove that none of them were there because they were on record as being elsewhere. Seems like a tough get... But, I'm in the mood to avoid grading right now. Gentleman (and ladies..) start your googling!
