That article joedirt posted doesn't even suggest Obam did anything wrong with documents. It quotes Julian Assange, of all people, as saying he heard "that destruction of records is occurring now in different parts of the Obama administration." Assign whatever sinister value you want to that bit of double hearsay from a highly questionable source, but also consider that the Presidential Record Act expressly assumes and allows outgoing administrations to "dispose of records that no longer have administrative, historical, informational, or evidentiary value." You don't have to keep the mountains of irrelevant documents generated over years in a bureaucracy with tens of thousands employees.
The current issue with Trump isn't that he destroyed documents, and his administration presumably did destroy thousands of documents when he left. It's that Trump appears to have deliberately TAKEN top secret, classified national defense documents with him, and without telling anyone who needed to know that he was doing so, and then storing them in unauthorized unsecured places. That's really dangerous, if true, and probably why its illegal. How does Trump attempt to fix that? By stonewalling attempts to retrieve the classified information and apparently lying about it all too. This current Trump situation is completely different than anything described in that irrelevant article posted by Joedirt, who probably just read the title and thought it looked like a decent prop for some low-grade whataboutyouism.
Well here is another article and the source is Obama's own appointed archivist. The same archivist that started the whole documents probe against Trump.
The same bean counter that made sure to retire under Biden because of his political leanings.
I'm sorry, but I don't see how your mulligan helps you, or informs us of much more. The source is different and better, but he's also talking about different documents than the ones Assange was hearsay speculating about.
Your new article seems to deal more with the problems that archivists face with respect to historical records, and why it's unfortunate to lose recorded history. The only thing I see in that article that could be malfeasance attributed to Obam is reference to missing, and presumably destroyed, records that I think were attributable to poor IRS practices, and the Clinton private server issues. There is nothing in that article saying what became of the "allegations," or where more information could be found on what was claimed to be missing, or who did what about it. None of the usual politicians vocal about such things seem to have "made a federal case" about any of it (except the Clinton server). I couldn't find anything with a few Google searches either. What happened on the vague stuff in this article? None of it interested me enough to do the digging that you should have done.
The PRA allows outgoing administrations to destroy documents, as I pointed out above. More importantly, that is absolutely not what the current Trump issues are about. If Trump had sent the 26 boxes to the shredder the day he left, we would not even discussing anything regarding unauthorized disclosure of Top Secret National Defense Information, search warrants, affidavits or rats. We probably wouldn't be discussing these documents at all. Presumably the classified ones have duplicates/copies elsewhere in the government, and the contents of any private Trump documents could only be speculated about for a day or two. It's the deliberate and illegal removal of such documents that make this a real issue for anyone with any objectivity or concern for national security.
So I'm still unclear what you are driving at with the obvious whataboutyou (you haven't really said). I'll assume you are trying to suggest there is a double standard at play, but given the completely different fact patterns, I just can't see how you arrive at that.
Trumpists and the Taliban have more in common than meets the eye. They both like oppression - but they Trumpists would like to exercise it over others.
You can be arrested for speech in your country you imbecile. NZ has much more in common with the Taliban than anyone in America.
We have a female prime minister. So like the Taliban.
But the Right in America, with their intent to destroy American democracy, are looking more like Al Qaeda by the day.
Here's a solid rundown on the chronology. All of it makes Trump look terrible and the FBI look like it was leaning over backwards to be nice to the former president.
Bradley P. Moss @BradMossEsq Sorry, @Redistrict , but I am stealing the line. I have seen enough, folks. Donald Trump will be indicted in the classified documents matter. I'm placing my marker.
Doesn't change the fact that you're spending the last few years of your life worshiping a man who's going to die in prison.
We have been hearing for 5 years how he is going to prison and in 5 years from now you will be 5 years older and still saying how he is finally going to be spending the rest of life in prison. Just give it up.
