-- O'Brien (800, 1500)
-- Kosgei (steeple, 5k)
So now that picks are out, who does everybody like?
My .02:
Steeple: Kosgei
5k: Kosgei
10k: Kaul
1500: O'Brien
800: Bofa
bofa? hahaha. yeah right
Well, Bofa has the second best time coming in, and even though O'Brien is the class of the field, I think somebody sneaks past him in the 800 final since it will be his fourth race of the weekend.
i could see o'brien pulling a symmonds and running a 1:49 for his 4th race of the week.
My picks:
800: O'Brien
1500: O'Brien
5000: Sigl
10000: Sigl
Steeps: Kosgei
Clearly, the 5k will be the race to watch. It will be an epic battle of the titans between Sigl, Kosgei, and Kaul. All three guys will be doubling back.
just how o'brien is in a class of his own, kosgei is also. no way in hell those 2 are losing this weekend.
10k:
Sigl
Ramsey-North
Abdallah
5k:
Kosgei
Sigl
Kaul
Steeple:
Kosgei
Erichsen
Sorensen
1500:
O'Brien
Hodge
Boumeester
800:
O'Brien
Bofa
Stenuf
Wow, some interesting declarations. Who did St. Johns coach pay off to get Fermoyle into the 10k? 17 in 5k/10k is rare unless they are in the meet already in the other event.
800 took sub 1:52, first time in at least 10 years I think. Thats .51 faster than 2 years ago for last qualifier. The last guy in was 18th on the performance list, as where in the 1500 the 21st listed guy (conn college kid) got in.
Obrien is good, but he will be tired by the 800 final, unless people dont make him run in the trials or 1500 final. Only way to beat him in the 1500 final will be to try and make the race fast enough that he doesnt have much left the last 300. It will be his third day racing in a row.
Kosgei easy in the steeple. The 5k will be real interesting. I don't think that Kosgei has ever really gone all out for this distance, it's anybody's guess what he can do. That being said, Sigl has to be the favorite. O'brien in the 8 and 15.
10k-Wheeler
Sigl
Abdallah
Ramsey-North
Here is who I believe will finish as All Americans in the Five Distance Events:
800 Meter Run
1. Bofa - Whitworth
2. O'Brien - Ohio Northern
3. Kramer - UW Superior
4. Graybeal - Elizabethtown
5. Stenuf - Nazareth
6. Lambert - Wabash
7. Fox - Rutgers Camden
8. Sames - St. Thomas
(Bofa is an underrated talent, and this will be O'Brien's fourth race.)
1500 Meter Run
1. O'Brien - Ohio Northern
2. Harvey - Carnegie Mellon
3. McPherson - Keene State
4. McConnell - Elmhurst
5. Hodge - Wartburg
6. Hardbarger - RIT
7. Chaffee - Williams
8. Wray - Lynchburg
(O'Brien will win, but will still have to work hard for it.)
3000 Meter Steeplechase
1. Kosgei - Hamilton
2. Erichsen - St. John's
3. Sorensen - Tufts
4. Holehan - Augustana
5. Phillippi - UW River Falls
6. Baumann - UW Stevens Point
7. White - Carthage
8. Staley - Monmouth
(It's a two man race. Erichsen will go after Kosgei, probably break nine, but Kosgei obviously takes it.)
5000 Meter Run
1. Kosgei - Hamilton
2. Sigl - UW Plateville
3. Kaul - UW Oshkosh
4. Erichsen - St. John's
5. Abdallah - New York
6. Ramsey-North - Haverford
7. Mull - Wheaton
8. Place - Alleghany
(This is the least predictable as nearly all are doubling back.)
10000 Meter Run
1. Sigl - UW Plateville
2. Ramsey-North - Haverford
3. Kaul - UW Oshkosh
4. Mull - Wheaton
5. Abdallah - New York
6. Letts - Haverford
7. Dubois - Cortland
8. Wheeler - Southern Maine
(Sigl wins, but others come close in a slow race.)
Simply my predictions.
N.O., whether you're proven right or not, props to you for making specific predictions, rather than simply criticizing others', the way a lot of people (like me) do.
Personally, I'd pick at least two more NYU guys to be all-Americans (800 and 10,000)--but that's based mostly just on having seen them.
what is the point in predicting the top 8 of every single distance race? do you really think the specific ordering is going to be even remotely close to your predictions? what a waste of time...
whats the point of filling a NCAA basketball tourny bracket. Do you guys really think anybody ever comes close to predicting the outcome. what a f***ing waste of time.
Anyone want to venture top 8 guesses for the women?
In 2005 the top 8 in the 5k were all doubling from a previous race. No one who was fresh earned AA.

I actually wouldn't be that surprised if the 10k isn't super tactical. Guys like Hany, Ramsey-North, Letts etc don't have much in the way of kicks, so they might want to have the real racing start happening from a lot further out. At least, it seems like that's what they should do. Especially Hany.
I will make some predictions for the Women....
1500
Close between Taddy and Mitchell, give it to Mitchell
Steeple
Anna King rolling in the steeple
5k
Catherine Beck... still a tight race with Wiszowaty and Adams
10k
Wiszowaty hands down
