Not sure about USC but Arkansas jumps is not just jumps. Arkansas has track programs separated by genders meaning only three coaches. The HC coach is over distance, the other assistant who is staying is over sprints/hurdles/relays. This leaves the new replacement to coach the jumps, multis, and throws. Several coaches can coach 2 of those 3 groups well but not all three. If they can who wants to coach LJ, TJ, HJ, PV, SP, Discus, Javelin, Hammer/Weight, and the Multis.
It’s in the SEC so you know the pay is great but why focus on all these events when you can still make decent money at a different power 5 school coaching only the events you actually want to coach.

There are a boatload of D1 schools that don't give a hoot about TFXC. If they can't afford field event equipment, they just have a low-overhead distance program. They want to hire coaches who don't rock the boat, but do create a positive culture and tick off the scholarship allotment boxes for Title IX. Anyway, "care a little more about winning" is really, really understating how the Power5 programs compare to the rest of the normal NCAA programs.

I have coached at two P5’s. Neither gave two sh!ts about winning. It was clear we were just there to babysit.

I seriously doubt it will take Edrick that long to fill his distance and Sprint coach roles. This week will be the deadline

Watson will take the Texas job because 1. He’s a hipster who will fit right in in Austin and 2. He knows Fetzers days at UVA are numbered.
