Putin has said he wants to talk peace since the war started. It's just that his conditions are essentially the unconditional surrender* of Ukraine.
*To be more precise the conditions have been
1) Give Russia territories it has thus far not fully conquered.
2) Replace the government of Ukraine with a regime friendly to Russia.
3) Neuter the Ukrainian military such that it is incapable of future Russian aggression.Unsurprisingly Ukraine, NATO, and functional adults who aren't Russian sycophants don't consider this a serious proposal.

To be fair, Trump said he would make peace in Ukraine on his first day of office.
(I know he says a lot of silly things, but he did say it, so it seems quite natural for Putin to repeat that.)

But it's gotten pretty loud around Russian oil refineries lately. Russian propagandists are starting to snarl and Russian oligarchs are experiencing deep regret.

Coming up on 7 months now that Kursk has been occupied by Ukrainian brigades. They have set up dense EW networks, neutering most non fiber optic russian drones, and dragged hundreds of pieces of heavy artillery in through the russian border crossings they now control and set up fire control over russian highways.
The situation is still grim in the povrosk and now Chasiv Yar directions, but even when they fall to the russian hordes and then some, Russia captured roughly 1% of Ukraine last year. They also are dangerously depleted in armored vehicle stocks they can repair (their new production is so slow it’s inconsequential)
Ukraine will win. Russia is dying a slow economic death while Ukraine is being supported by most of europe and the developed world. When some sort of ceasefire occurs, Russia will find itself a poorer, weak nation hated by everyone while Ukraine will have one of the most powerful militaries on the planet as it rebuilds.
