Without foreign help on the ground and in the air Assad falls much earlier.
The weak don’t become strong just because their cause is righteous. But they do nonetheless win sometimes. That’s why I brought up the American revolution.
I suppose I’d be remiss not to note that weaker forces sometimes win when their cause is not righteous too. For example the Afghan Taliban.
Less technologically advanced doesn't mean weaker. The Taliban are formidable fighters. Yet another thing you are completely wrong about....

Unfortunately, the Afghan National Army, despite all of the help in the world, did a pretty damn good job making the Taliban look NOT weak.

There's absolutely no basis to claim foreign intervention slowed down the overthrowing of Assad.
The Americans would have never won the revolution without France... you don't understand anything...
You think all the Iranian and Russian and Hezbollah troops were just there for fun?
Syria's new minister of justice said today "We will implement Islamic law and prevent women judges from holding this position and they must hand over their cases to male judges."
One of the positive things of recent events was to see people released from jail that were unlawfully held and tortured. I don't think the new regime are "moderate rebels" though and al-Qaeda(HTS) will revert to what they have always done. It seems like the US had no plan for who would replace Assad so we end up with chaos.
The Taliban wasn't fighting the entire US they were fighting a tiny number of troops.
They weren't the weaker force.
Ask anyone who's actually been there. Ask an Afghan villager.
The US was stronger in the fight. The taliban was stronger in 99% of Afghanistan US troops weren't physically standing on.
The villagers sided with the Taliban because they saw the Americans for an hour and the Taliban was there before and after
So the Taliban won by being more popular and having a stronger political will despite having a weaker force in the actual battles?
I feel like we’re saying the same thing at this point.
No... they won by being more present on the country than the Americans were. The villagers feared the Taliban more than they feared or trusted the Americans because the Americans were rarely around and the Taliban was always around.
The same thing happened in Vietnam. The US won every battle but never occupied anything. Body count and victories mean nothing. The people take the side that will keep them alive.
You think Assads Russian and Iranian allies were working against him?
I think Assad’s Russian and Iranian allies represented the bulk of the foreign intervention in the Syrian civil war.
That is why I said “without foreign air and ground intervention Assad would have fallen much earlier.”
The US did more to hurt Assad than the inept Russians and Iranians did to help him. The US was even vaporizing Russians in Syria while the morons on the Democrat part were calling him a Russian puppet.

This is a different way of saying popular support and political will.
As regards Syria, Assad likely would have fallen in 2013 without Hezbollah troops helping him in Damascus, and 2015 without Russian air support in Aleppo. The US directly engaged Assad’s forces and allies on something like three total days, all of which were after that.

Having spoken with actual Iraqis on the subject I can promise you it has nothing to do with popular support or political will.
If you're a Red Sox fan and there's Yankees fans in your living room with machine guns guess which team you're going to say you root for.
The CIA was all over Syria by 2013 and the US was supporting multiple rebel groups including even Al Qaeda. The rebels were useless without outside help.
The west wishes the Syrians would go back. They won't.
Assad is going to look like a powder puff compared to the militant islamists that are taking over.
These are the same animals that were burning people alive in cages...
I welcome you to take your family and give to Syria. Let us know how great it is.
Syrians are already going back. And people in Europe are already starting to realize that their health systems are screwed without all the Syrian doctors and nurses who have been helping their aging populations.
HTS are not ISIS. They fought a war against each other in 2014, when ISIS took control of Raqqa and expelled HTS, and HTS expelled ISIS from Idlib. The two organizations are mortal enemies, and confusing them suggests that you really are out of your depth.
Assad will not ever look preferable to HTS. Since 2011, 90% of civilian casualties were caused by Assad, and more by his Russian and Iranian allies. The people of Syria absolutely loathe him.
You idiots supported regime change in Syria and now you for what you wanted and Syria will suffer for it.
Damn right I supported it, and I'm overjoyed that I actually lived to see it. I supported it because I'm not a monster who wants millions to suffer horrifically for decades at a time. And 99% of Syrians are overjoyed too.
Apparently liberals think what's basically ISIS will be better for Syria than a leader who has a couple authoritarian tendencies. Lunacy.
People who think HTS is ISIS are morons who should just stay silent rather than revealing their profound ignorance.
"Couple authoritarian tendencies"?? Like running a death camp within walking distance of his palace? Having 10,000 people murdered in prison every year? Getting trained on torture methods by Alois Brunner, a literal Nazi?
You really are impatient to start cheerleading for outright fascism.
But I'm not a f*cking moron so I understand that bringing in something much worse isn't the solution.
Syria has basically done the equivalent of setting its face on fire to alleviate its foot pain.
While idiots like you celebrate the foot pain being gone the non-morons are noticng that life just got worse for most Syrians.
What the hell do you think is worse than 40 years under torture until your mind breaks? That's the kind of people who are emerging from Sednaya. The Syrians who are living through this first hand are overjoyed.
