im surprised this thread isn't blowing up. a dIII runner just hit the b standard and he is only a junior and nothing hasn't really been said.

If anyone sees a video of the race online, please link it here.
A fantastic run by Jimmy. Got me thinking.
What types of yearly progressions did the two most recent DIII studs, Symmonds and Leer, have during college?
Pretty cool that Kosgei and O'Brien are in school at the same time. I'm sure they will continue to shake up the all-time DIII lists the next couple of years.
Too bad they don't race head-to-head in non-championship races. Be cool to see them push each other to bigger and better things.
I am too lazy to research specific times and stuff but Symmonds jumped on the D3 scene right away, where as it took Leer a couple years. I know Symmonds ran under 3:49 for sure and under 1:50.5 as a freshman. Leer was quiet until he won the Mile indoors his junior year.
Symmonds ran 346.6 and 149 at ncaas his frosh year, hurt most of his soph year, and off memory didn't have his big break outs 'til senior year when he ran 340 after nats.
amazing time by o'brien...curious to see if those two will duel at ncaas in the 8/15
How about Yout? I think he saw some pretty nice progression while he was in school right...
Aren't Leer and Symmonds both based in Eugene right now? I wonder if the OTC elite would take a shot on O'Brien next summer after graduation so DIII's recent mid-distance studs could all train together.
And that's a great mention of Yout. Bak and Kleimenhagen (sp?) too. It's been a great time for DIII distance running recently.
don't forget about matt groose of uw oshkosh...3:45 and 147 (I think) and indoor nat record of 149
im just curious. but what kind of life is leer leading right now. yeah he has barely broke the 4 minute barrier, but honestly, where is that going to get him? i know he is with the OTC club, but is he actually making a decent living running for them?
why dont we get back to talking about this years national meet since this thread is about predictions and not about past years....With one week left of racing, does anyone think any body will make large leaps? I saw butzler ran a good 1500 i think if he does one again he will qualify...

Why dont you put yourself in his position. If you had an opportunity like that while you're still young and fresh out of college why wouldnt you take it. He has his whole life ahead of him why not take advantage of something that wont be there in ten years. If you can break four and pass up turning pro then by all means feel free to criticize him but until then id shut up
butzler was literally in last place with 300m to go. it was honestly one of the stupidest races i have ever seen. sure its great that he can close that fast (last 200 26ish) but come on he could have run much, much faster.
But considering how he's been racing, maybe he just needed a good finishing race and get some confidence back... hopefully he can run a bit faster and assure himself a spot at nats.
I agree with pgiddy..I also agree that is was stupid, although he probably didn't think he would have that kind of finish in him since he hasn't been racing that well. I'm guessing he's starting to feel better and his body is not sick any more or worn out from overtraining...
Butzler's leg speed is nothing to mess around with. he's got the leg speed that people dream of having.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Butzler's superior leg speed, on display last weekend at NCC, may just make him a national champion this year. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Brian Butzler has the best leg speed out of any runner in the nation from the 800 on up. I would give anything to have this guy's fast-twitch muscles.
I cream my jeans every time I think of Brian Butler's leg speed.
I once saw Butzler do 20x400 and then jump immediately into the 100 dash roasting a 8.03 in trainers...4 people were taken to the hospital for whiplash

You are completely wrong. Who do you think you are? Butlzer didn't do any of this. However, he did once do 30x400 followed by a 100m dash in flip flops in 7.99, and 14 people were taken to the hospital for whip lash.
hey black power, your a f***ing piece of shit.
i wasn't criticizing him for taking the opportunity, i was wondering if anybody had any insight into the kind of lifestyle he is living right now.
