I could do alright at 24 hours, I think if I trained for it.

I was able to do 347 laps in 12 hours for relay for life a few weeks ago.

So when will Brandon Moen show up to challenge Dean for the title of greatest treadmill runner?

Go longer, you've somehow made "i kinda like to run" look brilliant. That is no easy feat. Congrats. I don't expect you to understand, but you called me "dense" in the beginning of your post and then agreed with me at the end. I also like how you totally assume what I could and could not do. What is this, poker? I'd love to show you my hand to stop your bitching about my relative lack of experience (according to your guesses), but as true as it would be, it could be considered dean-like (even though his "accomplishments" are contrived).

hey i didnt mean anything by that..people on letsrun generally have very high standards, so when i wrote my PRs as context for my "incredible" (according to accelerade) heart rate, i wanted to make sure people knew that i know im not incredibly fast.

I love these "If I trained for it comments". As if "training for it" would be easy. I think people on here are sore because Track & Field and distance running in general is regulated to the back page of the sports section and is mentioned on the 2nd page every 4 years. Other than that it gets no coverage. Our sport has a problem with marketing and image. It also has a HUGE problem with how it's run. Our "sport" is simply seen as recreation...nothing more. It doesn't seem "special" so no one cares. Any Joe can hop into the Peachtree 10k and run with the best athletes in the world. That aspect isn't promoted enough.

So along comes a normal looking guy who happens to run a lot and happens to be very good at business. He becomes a success because he lets people in, he makes people want to see him succeed. He is a spectacle, and people like spectacles. So he gets coverage. He's not a completely horrible runner. Hell, he's broken 3 hours for a marathon. That's no small task. No it's not elite, but how many sub 3 runners do you have in your city? Hell, how many of you screaming have even run a marathon much less running for 24 hours(well with a few poo/pee/and walk breaks? Sub 3:00?

Um, I don't think the guy was trying to do that. You come off as pretty insecure or defensive. Look into that.

And what is sub 3 hours worth in comparison? My "guess" is about a 5:20 mile? OK for the masses, but not actually exceptional in a competitive running conext.

Some things are thought to be good because so few do them. The guy is good at 100 milers. It is not like hoards are lining up to try. What's next, 1000 milers? And just in case, they find a technicality why the 24 hour record is 153 miles instead of the 304 miles someone has actually recorded. It just all seems like an infomercial to me.

My stepdad has run 152 miles in 24 hours, and he's a gibbering old fool (in his words). It's really not that good.

I just tuned in. He has 38 minuts to go and is essentially walking on the treadmill. Probably at 4mph or 15:00 pace. I know someone with my Westchester Track Club that would do better than this.

So why not email letters of compaint to Outside Magazine about this. Here is where you can send that magazine an email.
