that would be stupid. he can jog a steeple win at nationals. why waste a good opportunity to collect a few national titles when it could be so easily done?
after reading some of o'brien's training i feel he can be a much better runner. all he does is speed work. and that is it. where is the threshold work/aerobic work?
Threshold for the 800? I know some guys may do this for the 800, but I would be willing to bet most elite 800 runners don't do threshold workouts, especially in season. It's hard considering the NCAA schedule with cross, indoor, and outdoor. Aerobically I think he does plenty. He does about 60 miles weekly. That is quite sufficient for in season mileage. I mean you can't argue how much he has improved in three years. End of Discussion

For aerobic/threshold work see the months of July - January. He is still running 50-60 mpw. How much more should he be doing? 70-75 during xc. How many mpw do you think Khadevis is doing? Think he is doing alot of tempo runs? JO appears to being just fine on his current training regimine. When he starts to plateau maybe then you can talk about tweaking it.
Kosgei is running a 5k tonight. Looks like a workout / tuneup
race. It will be interesting to see what he does.

Yes, he ran 14:30 basically on his own. The next guy was at 15:44.
Looks like the distance races at North Central last night were pretty solid. Kaul ran 14:23 FTW and there were a lot of other guys who ran under the provo mark. In the 10k, Calvin went 1-2-3 with the top guy at 30:30 and the next two at 30:38.

He possibly could have gone faster. He was in the slower of the two fast heats, and he won his heat. Could have been pushed a little more the last 200 maybe.
