You don’t give up do you Troll. Of course that is a lie, I was first elected to The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. And elected a second time with my four time conference champ women’s cross country teams in 2021; because of Covid to be celebrated in 2022.

It seems like you have a long and successful career, but how come you didn't coach D1? Was it due to networking/timing? Sometimes things just don't work out at the time. I do income verification at my job and coaching is a decent salary if you get into the right school/college/uni.

The guy is 70. He's got Cancer. He did run fast as 99 percent of the runners on this site could not break 2:25. He asked a simple question and didn't really bring his accomplishments into the thread until others challenged him.

If someone wants to keep going and has zero chance to make any real money or win anything truly significant, it's their choice and he did't argue that, he posed the question.

I know several runners that are in that same boat right now as I type this. It's their choice and their life. If they can financially make it and keep training and racing and they are happy, it's their choice, he just asked a question;)

He asked the question in the thread title and then gave his answer in the OP. It is that answer that he is being challenged on.

Fine, fair enough. Hodgie-san is revered nearly universally on this site and Harter wasn't too much slower than him. I'm sure those accomplishments would find better reception if not persistently framed within prideful entitlement. I don't know that all that bile is good for treating cancer, godspeed to him with getting through it.

What I feel is a big difference from the days that Igy ran his 2:20's is that there was not the level of financial support then that there is now. I certainly feel that runners are underpaid, but at the same time, more of them are still paid compared to the 1960's and 1970's. Not just by NIKE, though it's great that NIKE supports running in so many ways (BTC, OTC-Elite, USATF, etc.), but also teams such at HOKA/NAZ, Hanson's/Brooks, ON Running, US Army, and so on. Yes, the support is very limited in terms of how many people get any paychecks, but at least there are running groups giving hope to fulfill runner's dreams after college ends.

What do you mean by vouching for character and contribution? You don't need to take him at his word about his racing. You can look up results. I assume someone wanting to see if he really coached where he claims he did could check with the schools but that seems sickly obsessive. I don't know what you'd want from someone who'd vouch for his character or contribution.

What library do I have to drive to on order to fact check obscure claims? He touted his vast value to the world by purporting connection and contribution to others, so given the reach of this site in the sport in our country where the hell are they to chime in with, "yeah, that's right!"?? Former fellow competitors, athletes, peers? The silence is deafening. Even your input is soft and unconvincing to anyone without a dog in this. You really don't understand independent verification?
