A level of family dysfunction? That's a joke. The media have portrayed it as the ultimate hillbilly nightmare, where in actuality there is little to no real "dysfunction" that virtually every family in the U.S. today isn't well accustomed to. What we're talking about is her teen aged daughter having a child out of wedlock. I would venture to say that, literally, everyone in our country knows someone, either in their own family or a friend's, who has done this. I would also submit that most of her "followers" as you call them, would in no way condemn that so-called dysfunction out of hand, and probably are no strangers to it .
No, try as hard as you can to flip this argument, the other guy is right, you are wrong on this one. Many on the religious right who support her certainly DO condemn the large amount out of out wedlock births found in the poor african american community, and with some whites. But because Bristol Palin got knocked up right underneath the nose of Mrs "Abstinence is the only answer", suddenly her teen sex romps with the local hockey stud are an "all american" feel good story. Nice try.
In fact, soon after people like O'Reilly and Hannity were knocking those who knocked Bristol's knock-up, footage surfaced of those types bashing, for example, Britney Spears' parents for allowing their daughter (Britney's sister) for getting pregnant. Remember that? Just because Bill doesn't like hollywood or popular music, the Spears are irresponsible, but the Palins? They are an all-american family. The hypocrisy is on the side of the Palin DEFENDERS, NOT the other way around.
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtS7mgF5fZQ I've seen the actual O'Reilly footage, but not surprisingly, he apparently is not allowing it on YouTube)
And it is also interesting that when Clinton cheated on his wife, people like you didn't consider it an all-american mistake/story, even though, as you stated, "everyone in our country knows someone, either in their own family or a friend's, who has done this", and in this case, "THIS" refers to cheating on a spouse (and yes, that is how common cheating is in this country). No, in THAT case, you and your ilk decided that such all-american mistakes/family problems are worthy of IMPEACHMENT! Incredible. And YOU are talking about hypocrisy in reactions to a family's weakness?? Look in the mirror my friend, look in the mirror (and no matter how the right tries to spin it, Clinton was impeached for his cheating/immorality. The "lie" was just an excuse to get him. He never should have been asked about his married life. It was not anyone's business).
