Watch for O'Brien to pop a fast 800 this weekend at the Oregon Twilight meet.

If O'Brien has to go to Oregon to run a good race, he is in trouble.

I don't think it's a matter of him having to go to Oregono to run fast.
He's already auto'd in both events he may run at nationals - who wouldn't want the chance to run at Hayward Field, soak up some atmosphere, and run against a great field.
You see have the east coast DI studs go all the way to Palo Alto to run fast. Are they in trouble too?
Ramon is dealing with PF issues that have been troubling him for a while. He's still in pretty wicked shape, though... For such a fatty, anyways.
Do you think O'Brien will run sub-1:50 ? We know that Kosgei ran 1:48 last weekend.
1:48.72 speed and 8:43.78 strength. Looks like he could be capable of a 3:40 1500. If he stays Div III through senior year he might obliterate every record from 800 to 5k.
O'Brien under 1:48.5 for sure no questions asked.
Im gonna guarantee that O'Brien doesnt crack 1:49 this weekend. He's a great runner, but dipping into 1:48 is a different level.
And Kosgei will certainly run more than just the Steeple. I wouldnt be surprised if he runs the 800, 1500, Steeple - despite the time schedule.
O'Brien ran 1:50 solo on a cold and very windy day about 3-4 weeks ago, and ran 1:49 last year at Hillsdale. He will suprise some big names this weekend!
i have a feeling he will be 1:47 high/1:48 low. mark my words.
Obrien's 3:47.98 (1500) converts to a 1:49.4. Unless he has gotten considerably faster, he will run between 1:48.9 and 1:49.9. He will run well but will not run a 1:47.

I understand what his 1500 time converts to, but you have to remember the 800 is his better event.
Sounds like a reasonable prediction. Let's not put too much pressure on the kid.
He's run faster at 400 and 1500 this season than he did when he ran 1:49 high last year, so I'd expect a PR, but 1:47 is a whole different level.
I'll say 1:48.8-1:49.2
agreed
Saw Kosgei's 1:48 800 on Youtube. He was out of gas at the finish, but he ran alone from the gun. I still think he may go for only the steeple at nats. He has had a long season of going unbeaten (except at Penn). Maybe a lot of pressure to do a couple of events.
Does anybody have an idea what a typical training for all these guys? Like Kosgei and O'brien? I mean tempo and speed workouts.
Both Kosgei and O'Brien have interviews on the DIII blog on trackshark. They mention training on there. O'Brien even posted his online running log.
I saw the Kosgei race in person and he went out in 51.9. I think that that 1st lap would take the gas out of most runners on the final stretch. However, he still fought to the finish.Tough Dude!!!

as crazy as everyone thinks it is. Kosgei is only running the steeple at nationals. Friend runs for hamilton and this is what kosgei has told him.
We also heard that he was going to run the 5000m only at indoor nats. He and his coaches hit us with a 15 & 8 double!
