Rupp had a bad day, it happens, his best running days are still a few years away, I think he finishes his career winning the Gold Medal in the Marathon in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Marathon. Is there a better way to end your career than winning an Olympic Gold in your own country?
Having bad days is more evidence that Rupp is mortal and more importantly, clean. His performances are legit. He'll be back.

Rupp can't handle cold weather racing. Bill Rodgers was a great cold weather marathoner.
The crazy part is not a single one of the 8 elite Ethiopians finished, and only 2 of the 11 elite Kenyans finished (Kirui and Edna Kiplagat)

Certainly not frequently, but he’s underperformed before. Manchester Road Race one year, getting waxed by Lagat and Lomong at US indoors one year.

That last sentence is idiotic because it implies he shouldn't run another marathon in a few months. Moran. I do think he likely had some asthma effects. Or he felt like crap. I don't know. But yes, noble predictor of the obvious, he will likely try another marathon.

And thats a bunk excuse since he has ran in warmer conditions where his asthma would be worse.

2 months after running Boston? Yeah I expected him to not even get fifth.
Super skinny runners do well when the weather is good. When the weather gets cold, the skinnies struggle. You need a little fat when the weather sucks.
Maybe this has been said here before but, this was a very blue collar race. Athletes who are trained in test tubes and in labs need not apply. Desi has trained through tough conditions of Michigan winters and Kawauchi is simply a grinder. Today speaks volumes about overall toughness. Congrats to Desi and Yuki.
