When did you last run?

Sounds like you are trying to live on past glories which after all is just at school.

If you were still running you could mention your long run or weekly mileage, As others have said she is just trying to show interest and probably does not actually care less!

The baseball question makes me think troll - how the hell would she know that

PS- if your fictional girl was from Oxford, she likely had a few teeth missing. If she went to Ole Miss and is from the delta, she was likely drop dead gorgeous. Too bad yours was only "from" Oxford.

Ok first off. Running isn't common knowledge. She was asking whats the farthest distance you ran. 2nd off you have no respect for women and are you are full of yourself in your head. I've stated time and time again in here that the running world is a small world. You may not think so, because many of us know many other runners and we talk about it, etc. But the majority of the world has no interest in long distance running and has no knowledge at all in any aspect of the different events in track and field. Crossfit people are the new wave, and even many of those people will mock marathoners. Not really understanding what it takes. Try the advertisement from lets run where you date other runners.

To me, this is the most painful part of your story. It's 2017, and you're describing a date as a "very sweet, wholesome girl." This language makes you sound like a pedophile. You should reconsider your adjective choices and your decision, as a college-age person, to go on a date with a girl. Might you have misinterpreted a babysitting gig as something more? I don't know. But these are definitely things you should consider.

That is not a stupid question. We have an arbitrary running culture that says 1500m and 26.2 miles (for example) are appropriate distances to test your best time. The events we train for and thus the way we train is a complete fabrication by our community. We could have just as easily determined that the person who could run the farthest is the best athlete (i.e. like discus or high jump, etc). She is not being stupid, she is showing that she is not familiar with our community's established (but arbitrary) metric system.

Outside of that, get over it. A majority of the time it is way better to date a girl who is clueless about sports than it is to date one that is knowledgeable.

From your post it seems likely she was struggling to think of anything to keep the conversation going as she, like most people, know and couldn't care less about running. She was throwing you a bone dude.

Don't be such a pompous ass, she was basically testing you out to see how much endurance you had, in other words if you were worth her time in bed. Obviously with your insecurities and having to seek out on here to make yourself feel better by calling her an "idiot" tells us all we need to know about your answer...carry on fool!

I have a friend who was talking up a girl. She found out that he plays Pokemon Go. She wanted to go down to the waterfront with him and go for a long walk and catch Pokemon and get drinks afterwards. Someone's an idiot here and it's not the girl. She basically sent out a verbal probe about your stamina (consciously or unconsciously doesn't really matter) and you totally missed the chance to respond with some tongue in check double entendre. Had you played it right you might even got lucky on this first date.
