If he wasnt being forced out his salary would not be being paid for the next three years.
If he wasnt being forced out his salary would not be being paid for the next three years.
He came back but then he left again... Stupid dog!~
I am gonna miss the green tights and the loud cussing on turn four.
And the 4 hours bitch sessions.. those were like candy..
Why is everyone crying over Martin Smith. The alumni want a distance program. period. the administration want a distance program. the BOOSTERS want a distance program. end of story. he left. they wanted him to go. this is the real world. save your tears. It's OREGON!!! If Baylor hired me and they had a strong alumni and I decided to focus on the 10k and steeple I would be gone in no time. Smith has been a great coach but he did not fit at Oregon. He'll coach agaon and be successful. But, that beingsaid, Oregon deserves no crap for doing what they wanted.
What is the sports information department going to do? Martin is the front cover of the media guide for the year
and he does have the green tights on.
I miss my dog... then again, maybe I don't
See ya Marty!!!!!!!
by his decision, it means that, he still was allowed the choice to stay, but has been pressured to resign by alumni and donors, An agreement was made and he made the choice to step down. He didnt just say one day, I'm quitting the program, then he would not be getting paid in accordance with his contract. The athletic department felt that it was best for the program if they went separate ways, and agreed to pay him the rest of his salary if he did step down. Martin agreed. That's all. But nobody is to blame. the community in Eugene did not like Martin, and at the same time Martin made few attempts to connect with the strong track community in eugene. There is this clash with what some of the alumni want, and the image of the program. No one person is at fault here, and don't go off the handle and say it is Nike, or Phil and Al's doing.
Phil Knight and Alberto had everything to do with it. Knight forced Moo's to get rid of Smith.
They have bought the University of Oregon athletic department and they call the shots.
call it what you want, but you don't have any facts. It's an uneducated opinion. Nike doesn't "own" the university. Phil Knight doesnt bully people with his position, nor his money. If you knew Phil, you would know. But you don't, so stop with the accusations.
Alberto gets whatever he wants. Does anyone have any balls?
SFry, nice to see you supporting Martin.
Man, has this kind of thing ever happened anywhere else at a US college?
Some places we've got college presidents getting rid of men's sports, notably track and cross and at UO we've got the weight of 'outside influence' leaning on the administration to get rid of a coach. Tough pills to swallow from without and within.
Everyone needs to read this article. Its a good article that tells it how it is or was. By the way Oregon wanted to hire Coach McDonnell first and Vinny was thier second choice. I read all this and just think how lucky Arkansas is to have Coach McDonnell. Why any kid would turn down the chance to run for him is amazing. It's proven that he stands taller then all others at the end of the day. You can take take that to the bank.
Former Duck
you don't like Alberto, that's fine, but he hasn't done anything wrong here. He isnt responsible for this. People love to point fingers, and name a bad guy. You don't even know Alberto. You don't even know Martin either. So why is it that you think you can make outrageous comments about any of these people?
My opinion: The Evil Empire wins again. Dineros made off of East Asian slave labor can buy off the big wigs at any university.
Whatever you do never trust Nike or Alberto
think about the choices of coaches that could success that program: one of which that sicks out is Jason Vigilante of Texas. he has turned a program around and that is kinda what Oregon wants.. not sure if he is considering the job though
Vig is not ready to take that job, they want a big name
I do have facts. Lame Duck funding raising for the University stopped because they didn't like what Smith was doing. Financial committments that had already been made were withheld.
Do you really believe that Moos just decided on his own to force Smith out one week after they finished 6th in the NCAA indoor meet? This has been in the works for months.
I'll tell you what else will happen. You'll see Galen Rupp enrolled at Oregon next week. Are you going to say Alberto didn't plan that?
will people stop with the accusations and insults. "Dont trust Nike and Alberto" - people love pointing the finger. Why dont you point the finger around before you place it in the business of others, in which you have little to no knowledge about. Thanks, adidas.
yeah but he has credentials. . i think he cuold be a big name soon
