Has any team ever been as deep as Wisco is now?

UTEP fan, let's throw them out of the equation! After all of the illegal recruiting, etc. I take them about as seriously as Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone have the times from the 82 or 83 Wisco Team with Hacker, Stinzi, Jenkins, Easker, etc. Almost all freshman I think, and they won cross nationals.

OR in the late 1970s, early 1980s...McChesney 13;14, Chapa 13;19, Hill 13;19, Salazar 13;21, Clary 13;25, Ken Martin 13;37...

Anyone remember the year PhiSlamma Jamma lost the NCAA hoops title to NCState at the buzzer or how Gtown was upset to Villanova. That was basketball where upsets happen all the time.

Someone please remind me how in the hell did wisconsin blow NCAA xc this fall to Colorado????

They clearly thought they didn't need a guy who is 4th in the nation in professional xc.

I mean the more they accomplish in track, the more it makes me wonder where their choke job ranks in the history of NCAA athletics.

So are they the greatest team to blow an NCAA title (or should we state it nicely and say to finish 2nd)?

MMMM....interesting ! St.Patricks' High School In Kenya lead the world with Many sub 14 each, they will be sending their 8kids to compete in Penn relays.....let's wait and see what times Songok and other Kids will hammer our NCAA Boys.

During the early 80's those teams did not have superior track pr.s. Those guys got injured a lot in the spring and the only meet where they really tried to run fast was at Penn Relays. Easker's senior year he and Hacker went 1-2 at Penn with 13:37 and 13:40. Stinzi and Jenkins were all greater cross than track guys. MAny injuries during track between them as well.

The Big 10 10k race was hot Easker's senior year when he ran right around 28:30 and something like 5 guys qualified for NCAA's.

HAcker also ran 3:37 his sophomore redshirt year and 3:35 right before his senior year.

Overall an incredible group who always performed phenomenly in the clutch in cross country. Unusual in the aspect that they were all from instate and came in and were All-Americans right off the bat as freshman.

I suppose 1983 could be considered sort of a choke when they didn't defend their title. I think they may have not have Hacker due to injury and their 5th man ran about 100th place, then went to TAC Nationals a week later and got 20th.

UTEP had 4 runners under 27:40 in one race. Plus Nyambui, a 13:12 5k runner.

Did McChesney, Chapa, Hill, Salazar, Clary, Martin all compete on the same team? Also...were those times all ran while in college?

If so...that's unreal.

Not all on the same team, nor were all of their times run the same year, or even in college (Clary, Martin).

Did Hacker ever run the mile, or are all his best times in the 1500?

Thanks for the info - truly amazing group that I had the displeasure of running behind (way behind) in HS.

That's right...the race was 10km, not 5km.

Martin ran an 8;23 steeple as a duck and the 13:37 sounds right for 5000. they also had zishka 13:47 around the same time.

McChesney, Chapa, Salazar, Hill and Martin were on the same team at least one year.

How can you say Wisco choked "big time". They still finished 2nd at NCAA's and took home an individual title to boot. Colorado ran an amazing race...and it's not like they aren't a quality team. Just looking at the numbers...it seemed Wisco would win...but there's a reason why they run the race.

Bum, Hacker had to wait many years to break 4:00 in the mile. He ran 4:01-4:01 indoors altough he didn't really race that season too hard. I'm not sure what his split was on the Indoor DMR Championship he anchored, beating Arkansas. That may have been under 4:00.

I think he finally did it around 1989 although his 1500 equivilant at the 1984 Olympic Tials would have put him at 3:54-55.

Didn't Western State a few years back have 6 or 7 under or around 14.00mins with Aish topping out at 13.22? Not trying to place western above Wisconsin but they were certainly a force of their time.

Thats right St. Patricks has a school record of around 1.44.9 in the 8hundy.
