You should probably select something she'd enjoy more like lord of the rings or harry potter.

Maybe the post is fake, but even if it is, you guys are making fun of the OP as if he must be patently lying or bragging about his kid's reading capabilities.
10 years old is the 4th grade (in the US) perhaps? I remember reading plenty of lengthy, serious books at that age, and I don't think I was exceptional. I had a few childhood friends who did the same, and I think my young cousin read "Great Expectations" when he was 10 or 11.
Nope, the paperback only goes to page 282.
Just understand if you let your kid read "The Catcher in the Rye" she'll be going around accusing everyone of being a "phony" for the next 1-2 years.
Here's a list of good books for young readers, some more challenging than others:
Watership Down
Matilda
The Once and Future King
The Last of the Mohicans
Joan of Arc- M. Twain
The Gift of the Magi
Tales from Shakespeare
The Book Thief
The Giver
Mrs. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
The Last Unicorn
The Red Badge of Courage
Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found
Bedknob and Broomstick
The Grapes of Wrath
Dune
Journey to the Center of the Earth
I think Guide to the Glaxy and the Diary of a Young Girl area appropriate as well. I'd skip Lord of the Flies and The Cruicble for later. Why waste her time reading more mature books when there are so many good reads for her age group?
Why don't you let your child read Fahrenheit 451... you red neck

I'd skip "The Crucible" forever. Arthur Miller - bah humbug!
