College Station, TX

Pros: young population, decent bars, little traffic, short drive from Houston or Austin, 'chill' city

Cons: women are only hot if you like cowgirls, everybody is a wannabe cowboy, hot weather, not a whole lot to do if you aren't of drinking age, A&M bs is everywhere and gets sickening after a point, very little diversity

Louisville, KY

Pros: Olmsted parks, one of the "Best Foodie Getaways Around the World" by Zagat Restaurant Digest. GQ named Louisville the "Manliest Town in America," "Most Livable City in America" (large-city category) by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and ranked as the top “U.S. Travel Destination for 2013” by Lonely Planet. UPS will bankroll your undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville...and you won't have to make excuses about why your local team sucks in sports since Louisville is at the top in all major sports (plus a Boston Marathon winning alum!).

Cons: the weather, and we're close to Indiana

ok, NYC:

Pros: exciting place to be, accomplished, fit, beautiful people, central park, no car needed, crime free for many, decent running community.

cons: taxi drivers honking, expensive housing, hardens your heart after a while, race relations, aggressive bad drivers, weather extremes

Grand Rapids:

Pros: good city, good downtown, great beer, close lake michigan(30 minutes). good city to run in.

Cons: winters can get annoying. springs and falls can be crazy because the weather is always crazy.(80s in march, has snowed in may)

Philadelphia:

Pros: Good bars and restaurants. "per capita" one of top cities for places to eat, drink and relax vs any other major city.

Cons: everything else. its a ghetto hell hole. The crime is south-side-of-chicago-esque. Major infrastructure issues for the 21st century. Decaying rust belt city.

Charlotte

Pros:

Weather (fall, winter, spring), professional sports (NBA and NFL), traffic isn't bad for a city of its size, really good shopping and dining options, the NoDa area, 2 hours away from mountains and 3.5 hours away from the beach, great higher education opportunities in the state, solid trails, really beautiful with lots of trees and gardens, people are very friendly. North Carolina overall is generally regarded as a nice place to live.

Cons:

Weather (summer), fall and spring only last for about two weeks, our sports teams are synonymous with losing, it's not on any body of water (river, lake, or ocean), North Carolina politics, lack of public transportation, no major university presence in the city (and thus no academic or cultural influence that a university would bring).

As a native Charlottean, my main gripe with Charlotte is that the city has no real, recognizable identity. A large proportion of residents either moved here from the Northeast or Midwest or are the children of people who did. The city thus feels very "new." It has the look of a big time city, with restaurants, shopping malls, and a skyscraper-filled downtown area. But, unlike older or more established cities of comparable size (Pittsburgh, Denver, Baltimore, Portland), the city doesn't really have a distinguishable "feel" to it. I get the sense that people are proud to be from those cities, but I don't necessarily encounter that here. I suppose all of this makes sense, as Charlotte reached its current size relatively recently.

Those are my thoughts, for what they are worth.

As a fellow New Yorker, I would say that the high cost of living is a pro, not a con. It keeps out the riffraff.

You must live in some upper east side bubble if you haven't noticed the riff raff in NYC. NYC has both a high cost of living and more than its fair share of riff raff.

Knoxville, TN

Pros: I can be in Nashville in less than three hours and Atlanta in less than four.

Cons: This town fukkin sucks!

Oklahoma City.

The best part about this place is the view when it's in my rearview mirror. The people who are born and raised here don't know any better, so I can't fault them much, but bless their hearts, they have an inferiority complex, constantly trying to show how much better the place is than Dallas, Denver, Wichita, or anywhere else within a day's drive.

Actually, the best part is the low number of sodomites here.

Columbus, OH

Pros: High-paying jobs in low to moderate cost of living city. No EXTREME weather typically. Nice city to raise a family.

Cons: Any snow and any cold weather is too much for me, so I don't like that. It can get very hot and humid in the summer. Too cloudy.

Detroit

Pros, too many to name but here goes: weather, boom snow and ice storms in the winter really make you love the humid summers, crime, as long as you commit it you're good and you might even become mayor, population, shrinking so there's plenty of room, economy, automotive capital of the world, culture, motown nuf said

Cons: low cost of living let's all the riff raff in

Ithaca. Lots of lesbians.

Eugene

Pros:

The University.

An enjoyable downtown scene (I know it's not great compared to larger cities but I like it).

Track meets like Pre, NCAAS, USAs/OTs, and duck meets.

Running trails for miles.

Very accessible to bikers.

Very green and friendly to vegans.

Oxford

Pros: Historically significant, unparalled literary tradition, the most beautiful women in the country, many of the cultural amenities of a metropolis (without the drawbacks such as crime, slums, smog and noise pollution) in a small town package. Running in the heat and humidity will make a man out of you.

Cons: tourists, students and football fans on home game days. The new wave of weekend residents which has caused over development and a real estate bubble.

By riffraff, I mean boring people--not homeless people. The kind of people who enjoy living in Canton, OH because it is cheap don't come here and we are glad not to have them and their Olive Garden/Target culture.

pros: rapidly growing running community, fairly progressive on social issues tons of stuff too do in town such as 6 flags etc. the almo, the spurs, average women is a 7+. lots of different colleges.

cons: humid and hot as a wrinkley ballsack in the summers. not as many trails as I would perfer. and not to sound racist but there is a plethora of mexicans

SF

Pros: beautiful scenery, great running trails, perfect running weather, good restaurants and local produce, top-notch weed, great bars/clubs

Cons: astronomical cost of living (+ competitive housing market), shitty people (tech drones and hipsters), ugly people, parking, lack of summer

Definite exaggeration on how bad the crime/ghetto-ness is. As long as you avoid certain neighborhoods, Philly really isn't that bad. If I ever ended up in one of those neighborhoods though, I'd be shitting myself.
