RE: whats the most severe excruciating pain that you have ever felt?

Got a bad infection underneath the nail at the base of my big toe. The clinic at school tried to drain the infection by burning a hole in the top of the nail, but the infection was too deep. I went to the podiatrist, who immediately said the nail would need to be removed because the infection could spread into the foot. At the time of the appointment, a large amount of pressure from pus had built up underneath the nail and I could barely walk. To remove the nail, the podiatrist jammed a needle filled with anesthetic into the sides of the toe; this was incredibly painful because of how swollen the toe was and nearly caused me to pass out. She then grabbed the tip of the nail with a pair of pliers and ripped it off, causing pus to squirt onto the walls and drip down my foot. I blacked out for a second from the pain.

Post surgery physical therapy for joint mobility / ROM.

Not taking pain meds post surgery for bone work ... pain meds take a little while to take effect on bone pain ... never forgot again.

Dog's head bonked my head ... saw stars, thought I was going to pass out.

Root canal.

I had shingles once, just a small outbreak under my arm but it was enough. It was crazy because the area it was affecting was so small, but when a jolt of pain went through those nerves. Crazy pain.

I was also having an, ahem, surgery that involves a couple of snips and the doctor was going to shoot me up with a local. He said "you'll feel a stick and a burn"...the stick part was OK but the burn...wow. Never felt pain like that since.

Not as bad as others, but had a very severe calf cramp/spasm from out of nowhere. Whole muscle just clenched tight as hell, and the pain was excruciating enough that I was on the ground with clenched teeth groaning for several minutes.

Good news is pain didn't last long, though the muscle remained tight the rest of the day as was bruised/lingering effects for about a week.

No idea what triggered that to occur though.

ACL reconstruction. Allergic to morphine, vicadin wasn't cutting it. Eventually got demorall, and that was the greatest thing I'd ever felt.

Buddy of mine broke C2 (I think, I know it was was one of the spinal breaks you really shouldn't survive) and a few other bones in his spinal column in a diving accident, said that if given the choice between having to relive that pain and dying, just hand him a gun. The same guy had a femur fracture in a separate incident and that he couldn't even begin to compare how much worse the spinal injury hurt.

Another friend broke his back and had to hike 3 miles to get help. He was in so much pain he doesn't actually remember most of it. For my money, I'd put spinal injuries on the top of the list of most painful human experiences possible.

I once saw a woman basically get split in half by a guard rail after she got thrown from a car. Oddly enough, she seemed to be in almost no pain between the accident and loading her onto the helicopter, but according to the highway patrol report she was DOA at the hospital.

I once had a head injury. The pain is so bad you can't feel it.

A couple of weeks after getting my wisdom teeth removed from below the gumline, one of my wounds became infected. I had been irrigating the wounds with a little squirter to remove food particles. The dentist used a similar device, filled it with listerine or the equivalent, and absolutely jammed it into the infected wound and squirted. I'm sure it was necessary, but it was the most intense pain I'd ever felt.

Meningitis. Like an awful migraine headache x 10. You can't move your neck without wincing in pain. Unfortunately I was vomiting so badly that I couldn't keep still enough. Lumbar puncture for spinal fluid test (needle is enormous). Finally got Fentanyl in me once I got to the hospital. I was there for a week.

The tip of my pinkie finger was cut off in a door by mistake when one of my parents accidentally slammed it shut on my hand. Close runners up: crushed my foot underneath a garage door loaded down with multiple neighborhood kids (we used to ride garage doors up and down as a past-time), stepped on an old, rusty nail that went straight through my foot, broke both wrists while ice skating, broke my ankle in multiple places while jumping off a swing, sliced my hand open (down to the bone) with a butter knife that slipped while I was attempting to pry open a frozen bagel.

Almost 3 months ago while training the Boston Marathon course with a few BAA guys, I suffered a severe pop in my right knee at the Newton Firehouse only to find out it was a torn Meniscus. About 20 minutes after I finished at Cleveland Circle, I started to feel the pain blow up just above and below my knee with a few swollen spots. Later that night the pained turned extremely excruciating I could hardly sleep that night.

My femur snapped mid stride while running. That one hurt pretty bad. I would say my divorce tops that though.

Pinched nerve in my neck. White-hot jets of electricity shooting without warning through my neck and shoulder at irregular intervals for several days.

You are the one leaving me for a more comfortable way of living. How do u think that makes me feel? First, I get to remember that when you were here, you never came to me and I think you knewyou were going to leave so u never planned a solution or discussedit with me. What a waste of time and the extraordinary gift of life putting us together in the same city.

Then I remember those guys would do anything for their wife to protect her. You are willing leaving me here alone.

I feel like I wasn't good enough for you

My first sh*t after an operation for haemorrhoids - neglected to dose with laxatives before.

I tore my pec once and it had me rolling around the floor in agony for awhile. It felt like my chest was on fire. I wasn't sure what was happening and thought maybe it was a heart attack. That's the most memorable for me.

I drove a friend to the hospital once with a kidney stone. The pain was so bad he collapsed on the floor of the ER vomiting and barely conscious. I'd say he had mine beat.

broke/bruised a rib while submitting to the rollerblading fad many years ago - I couldn't breathe for two weeks w/o sharp stabs to the midsection. Couldn't lie on my stomach for a month.

felt like the edge of the rib was rubbing around in the soft tissue - yeaouch.

Bone cancer. Nonstop blinding pain for almost two months between onset and diagnosis.

Second worst was when my forearm caught fire when I was about 10 years old.
