To anyone not in attendance, I can give a fairly unbiased account of his performance.
He ran in last (but in contact with the pack) for maybe two laps. He was off the back by 1k (2:47 split -- 13:55 pace?). He actually looked kind of okay, and I noted to a friend that if you were to just look at his form and forget about the fact that he's in DFL, he doesn't look too bad. He actually picked it up a bit after that (to more like 13:40 pace) but the pack in front of him was obviously going much faster so it didn't look like much.
He dropped out at 2k (not positive on the split, though I believe it worked out to 13:45 average, so that would be 5:30 - a 2:43 second 1k).
Fam used to be one of my favorite runners, but it's very clear that his track days are over. Either move up to the marathon or retire. And please stop with the embarrassing blog posts about how you are a hero because you don't take thyroid medication, which, by the way, is not a PED and wouldn't have helped you not embarrass yourself today.
One addendum: he tweeted after the race "Pulled out to save another day". A little confused what he's saving 'it' for - this is the biggest meet he's been allowed in in years. Is he saving it for the NC father/son stroller competition?
In more relevant news, I was impressed by Ben True's run - really solid time and tactically smart race in poor weather, although I wish he would have won the duel over the last 100m with the ethiopian.
